Re-offer and manage a course from Source Courses

Re-offer a Source Course to create a linked course offering without manually copying course content. This workflow supports recurring recertification and retraining. Re-offered courses remain linked to the Source Course, allowing you to synchronize updates and track deployments.

Permission requirements for re-offering a Source Course

Source Course permissions are available under Manage Courses in the Roles & Permissions tool. When editing permissions for a role, Source Course appears as an organization unit setting.

Ensure you have the following permissions:

Manage Courses > Has Access to the Manage Courses tool.
Manage Courses > Create Course Offerings and Templates to create re-offered courses.
Createspace > Receive notifications from Createspace to receive alerts when re-offering or synchronization is complete.

Re-offer a course from Source Courses

Access the Source Courses library from the navbar or dashboard.
Click the Actions menu for the Source Course and select Re-offer.
On the Re-offer [course name] page, enter a Name and Code.
Optionally, click Choose Semester and select a semester. Complete any required Department field that appears.
Enter a Start Date and End Date for your course.
By default, the re-offered course is set to Active. To make the course inactive, turn off the Active toggle.
Click Save or Save and Manage.

Note: The system automatically generates a unique course code for the re-offering to distinguish it from the Source Course and previous offerings. Whether a Semester or Department is required depends on your organization's d2l.Tools.Courses.SemesterOptions and d2l.Tools.Courses.DepartmentOptions configuration variables.

When the re-offering is complete, a notification appears in Update Alerts on the navbar.

Synchronize and track re-offered courses

Re-offered courses maintain a persistent link to their parent Source Course. Use the Source Course Information page to review deployments and synchronize updates.

Access the Source Courses library.
Click the Actions menu for the Source Course and select Manage.
On the Course Administration page, click Source Course Information.
In the Associated Course Offerings section, review the re-offered courses linked to the Source Course.
Select the course offerings you want to update and click Sync.

This is the paper note and pencil icon used for notes.

Note: Synchronization is currently available for Assignments, Pages, and Discussions.

Enrollment considerations for re-offered courses

Source Courses do not support direct learner enrollment. If a learner is enrolled in a Source Course, for example through an automated student information system integration, the system redirects the enrollment to the current re-offered course. This behavior is controlled by the d2l.System.Enrollment.LearnerRole configuration variable.

Important: You can enroll learners in re-offered courses through the Integration Pack for Student Information Systems (IPSIS), but IPSIS does not support removing learners from re-offered courses. D2L recommends unenrolling learners directly from the course offering.
