Set up the Create Course widget

The Create Course widget is an organization-level widget. You can add the Create Course widget to your organization homepage, or any other homepage.

This is the paper note and pencil icon used for notes.

Note: You must have the required permissions before you can configure the widget.

To configure the widget, you must define the following :

The available Departments for created courses
The prefix and suffix for the course codes
The role that is automatically assigned to the course creator

Users who have permission to create courses using the Create Course widget will also have access to any departments defined in the Create Course widget configuration.

This is the bullhorn icon used for warnings.

Important: Currently, clients can only set Department as a required field in Form Elements. Setting any other required fields prevents the use of the Create Course widget.

Courses created using the Create Course widget are identifiable by the following attributes:

Course Code: Courses created using the widget use a standard naming convention for the code. This will follow the format of: <prefix>-<OUID>-<suffix>. (Example: Course Name: Anthropology Practice Course, Course Code: Fall-171146-2024).
Course Template: Courses created using the widget will be associated to the selected department by an automatically created course template that uses a standard naming convention. The format of the standard naming convention is the following: TccCourseTemplate-<OrgID>-<DeptID>. (Example: Template Name/Code: TccCourseTemplate-6606-6607).

With the Manage Course Create Widget permission, you can edit and remove departments at any time by selecting the Customize this widget menu option in the Course Create widget.

Note: The Customize this widget menu option does not appear to users who do not have this permission.

To set up the Create Course widget

Enable the widget via Organization Tools.
Assign the Create Course widget permissions to the appropriate roles.
Add the Create Course widget to the organization homepage and any other department homepage.
From the widget menu, click Customize this widget.
In Department, select the departments that you want to appear to users with permission to create courses in the widget.
In Prefix, enter a prefix code to identify the courses created in the widget.
In Suffix, enter a suffix code to identify the courses created in the widget.
In Role assigned to course creator, select the role for course creators.
Click Save.

The customized widget settings now apply to all courses created using the widget. Refer to Create a course in the Create Course widget for steps to create a course.
