You can create recommendations and categorize them for every level, area, and sub area in Profession Path. Add new recommendations, edit, delete and reprioritize existing ones. Additionally, set up and edit categories for recommendations, and assign a rating to each one based on the 4-point Likert scale.
To create a recommendation
- From the Recommendations tab, click Create New Recommendation.
- In the Recommendation Text* field, enter the learning recommendation content.
- Do one of the following:
- Select a category for the recommendation from the Category* drop-down list.
- Click Add New Category and enter the Category Name*. Click Save then select the new category from the Category* drop-down list.
- Enter the Ratings Range* values.
Click Save and Close.

Note: You can only assign one category to a recommendation. |
When you add new recommendations, learners receive a notification to retake assessments in Update Alerts (the bell icon). If changes impact users, select Mark as Major Change before saving.
To edit a recommendation
- From the Recommendations tab, click Create New Recommendation.
- Do any of the following:
- In the Recommendation Text* field, enter the learning recommendation content.
- Select a new category for the recommendation from the Category* drop-down list.
- Click Add New Category and enter the Category Name*. Click Save then select the new category from the Category* drop-down list.
- Edit the Ratings Range* values.
Click Save and Close.
Categorize recommendations
Create or delete categories that classify the type of resource included in the recommendation to learners. This can provide a helpful visual clue to learners and allows all users to filter their recommendations.
Categories are entirely customizable for your organization; consider categorizing recommendations by action, course, reading or any other resources or activities.
To create a category for recommendations
- From the Recommendations tab, click Edit Categories.
- Click Add New Category.
- Enter the Category Name* in the field.
- Click Save.
To edit a category
- From the Recommendations tab, click Edit Categories.
- Click the name of the category you want to edit from the list.
- In the text box, edit the category name text, then click on the page to close the text box.
- Click Save and Close.
To delete a category
- From the Recommendations tab, click Edit Categories.
- Select the check box beside the category name you want to delete.
- Click Delete >Yes.
- Click Save and Close.
Set a rating for recommendations
Profession Path provides a 4-point Likert scale methodology for learners to self assess their proficiency in an area.
Self assessments use the following scale:
- Emerging: Initial understanding and competency
- Developing: Partial understanding
- Proficient: Competent understanding
- Exceeding: Sophisticated understanding
You can assign recommendations to align with the learner self rating as a range of values from 0 to 4.
To set a rating for a recommendation
- Navigate to the recommendation you want to edit or create a new recommendation.
- From the Add Existing Recommendations window or the New Recommendation page, enter values between 0 and 4 in the Ratings Range* fields.
- Click Save.
Prioritize recommendations
The prioritization feature enables administrators to highlight key recommendations, ensuring they appear at the top of the list. You can prioritize or deprioritize recommendations, view confirmation messages for both actions, and identify prioritized recommendations through visual markers. Newly created recommendations are listed below prioritized ones, which are sorted by creation date, with the most recent at the top. There is no limit to the number of recommendations you can prioritize.
To prioritize a recommendation
- Navigate to the Recommendations tab.
- Click the context menu for the recommendation you want to prioritize or deprioritize.
- Click Prioritize or Deprioritize accordingly.
