Configure options for the Awards Leaderboard Widget

The Awards Leaderboard Widget offers organization-wide customization options that control how the widget displays user details and sorts awards data. You can configure how learner identities appear in the Awards Leaderboard widget and standardize how Awards Leaderboard data is sorted using configuration variables.

Mask learner details in the Awards Leaderboard widget

To enhance learner privacy, you can mask learners’ usernames and profile images across all instances of the Awards Leaderboard widget by setting a configuration variable.

You can override the configuration variable setting at the course level by applying the Awards Leaderboard > See Masked User Details permission to any role.

Learners always see their own name and profile image, regardless of the masking configuration.

Displaying the Awards Leaderboard unmasked and masked views

To mask user details by configuration variable:

Navigate to Admin Tools > Config Variable Browser.
Set the configuration variable d2l.Custom.LCSWidgets.AwardsLeaderboard.MaskUsernamesto on. This variable is off by default.
Click Save.

You have masked user details in all Awards Leaderboard widget instances in the organization.

To override user masking details by permission:

Navigate to Admin Tools > Roles and Permissions and select Edit Permissions from the Actions for [role] drop-down for the role you want to edit.
Select Awards Leaderboard from the Filter by Tool drop-down. Click Apply Filter.
Select the See Masked User Details permission check box.
Click Save and Close.

You have applied the permission that overrides user masking in the Awards Leaderboard widget.

Set global sorting preferences for the widget

When you set this configuration variable to either Awards or Credits, it overrides all course-level widget settings and disables the Sort by options in the widget’s Customize this widget menu.

In the Instructor view of the Customize Widget dialog, the Sort by options are disabled and a message states: An organization-wide configuration variable has disabled these settings.

To enforce sorting behavior in the Awards Leaderboard widget across all courses:

Navigate to Admin Tools > Config Variable Browser.
Set the configuration variable d2l.Custom.LCSWidgets.AwardsLeaderboard.ForceSortBy to one of the following options:
- Awards – Sorts by the number of awards
- Credits – Sorts by total credits
- Not Set (default) – Leaves sorting control at the course level
Click Save.

You have configured the sort order for all instances of the Awards Leaderboard widget in your organization.
