Use impersonation to experience Brightspace exactly as another learner does. This is especially useful if you want to experience your course as a learner or troubleshoot issues a learner might be experiencing.
When you impersonate another user, you can access all areas of their account, including their courses, emails, account settings, and submitted activities. Use demo learner accounts to explore your course from a learner’s perspective.

Note:
- When impersonating, you cannot trigger release conditions as that user. However, if you complete an activity that is automatically graded, any release condition tied to that grade is evaluated.
- Completion tracking is not recorded when you are impersonating another user.

Uses for impersonation
Explore your course as a learner
- Impersonate a demo learner account to experience the course as learners do, including navigation, content, and activities.
Troubleshoot learner issues
- If a learner reports a problem, impersonate their account, if permitted, to investigate the issue directly.
Impersonation vs. role switch
Impersonation:
- You experience Brightspace exactly as another user does, including their data and enrollments.
Role switch:
- You experience Brightspace as someone with a different role, such as Learner, but you do not access any individual user’s private data.
