You can remove learning objectives from an associated tool item. For example, if you have associated a quiz with specific learning objectives that you created using the Competencies tool, you can remove the learning objectives from that quiz.

Important: Learning objectives are created and managed using the Competencies tool. Learning objectives are not the same as Learning Outcomes, which are created using the Learning Outcomes tool. You cannot use both Competencies and Learning Outcomes in the same course. For more information, refer to the What's the difference between Competencies and Learning Outcomes section of About Learning Outcomes.

To remove associations from a tool
- Navigate to the tool that corresponds with the activity that you want to remove associations from.
- Do one of the following:
- On the Assignments page, from the context menu of the assignment with associations that you want to remove, click Edit Assignment.
- On the Manage Quizzes page, click the quiz with associations that you want to remove.
- On the Manage Surveys page, click the survey with associations that you want to remove.
- On the Manage Grades page, click the grade item with associations that you want to remove.
- On the Discussions List page, from the context menu of the topic with associations that you want to remove, click Edit Topic.
- In the Objectives tab, from the context menu of the associated learning objective that you want to remove, click Remove Learning Objective.

The associated learning objectives are removed from the item.
