You can use D2L Lumi Idea to generate discussion ideas to assist in creating a new discussion topic or to modify and uplift an existing topic.

Note: Ideas for discussions are generated from sibling topics within the same content module. The following content topics are supported:
- Pages
-
Assignment topics (source drawn from instructions field)
-
Quiz topics (source drawn from description field)
-
Discussion topics (source drawn from description field)
-
Media Library topics (both audio and video are supported but must have existing transcripts in English)

Most file topics excluding PDF (.doc, .docx, .odt, .ppt, .pps, .pptx, .ppsx, .odp, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf, .txt)

Tip: D2L recommends input submitted to D2L Lumi be in English. Brightspace does not prevent non-English language content from being submitted as input. |
To generate ideas for discussions
- Navigate to Content.
- Select a module that contains existing course material like HTML topics, assignments, quizzes, and discussions.
- Click Create New > Discussion.
- On the New Topic page, click Generate Discussion Ideas.

- Select the Number of Ideas you want to generate.
- Optionally, select a Bloom's Taxonomy level appropriate for your assessment goals. If you do not want to use Bloom's Taxonomy, leave the field as Select Level.
- Select a Content Source from the following options:
- Include all supported activities in the current module when generating an idea for a new discussion topic
- Select only certain activities when generating an idea for a new assignment
- Selecting this option allows you to choose which activities are included for the idea generation.
- Click Generate.

- In the Prompt Ideas dialog, a list of discussion ideas is generated. Select the idea you want to use for your discussion.
- Click Insert.
- If you are editing an existing discussion topic, click Proceed in the pop-up dialog.

- Fill in your discussion topic details such as the Topic Title and Grade Out Of.

- Click Save.
- Click Outcomes. The name of this button depends on the language term set by your organization. Other names can include Standards, Competencies, Expectations, Objectives, or Learning Outcomes.
- In the Browse Learning Outcomes dialog, search for and select available outcomes to align to your discussion. Learning objectives must already exist in the course to align them to a discussion.
- Click Save.
- Click Save and Close on the New Topic page.
