How was this Resource Developed?
This resource was designed and developed with the assistance of two co-op students, one of whom has low vision. A number of multi-media resources were created for the course to make learning material available in a variety of formats.
We hope that the knowledge and skills offered through this resource would be of use to instructors in creating course material with greater empathy for students with low vision by adopting accessibility strategies outlined therein.
Some types of software not owned by D2L are described in this course. These are assistive technologies commonly used by Learners with Low Vision. This is not intended as an exhaustive list, but rather to introduce Learners and Educators to tools which are widely used and available for free or at a relatively low cost. If you know of other assistive technologies that have been very helpful to yourself or others with low vision, we'd love to learn from you and invite you to share with us in the comments of this article, or by joining our Accessibility Interest Group!
Who Is It For?
This resource was put together with the needs of instructors in mind, but we feel it will be of value to you regardless of your role in understanding how users with low vision use the web and what works best for them.
