This short course is intended for anyone using Brightspace as an introduction to disabilities, assistive technologies, and Brightspace accessibility features. It includes hands-on exercises that provide practical experience in using some accessibility features and tools. It also provides an overview of D2L’s accessibility practice and offers resources for further reference.
What Is It?
D2L’s Accessibility Lab, available for free to all Brightspace Community Members, is a course with different units offering learning content on specific topics.
Introducing:
- Types of disabilities,
- Assistive technologies used by people with disabilities, and
- Brightspace accessibility features designed to support users with disabilities.
The course addresses three major categories of disabilities: sensory, physical, and cognitive. Hands-on-exercises are included in each category to give you the experience of learning by doing. The lab also has a wonderful collection of resources on accessibility.
How was this Resource Developed?
The virtual Accessibility Lab was first offered as part of the D2L Fusion 2021 conference. We heard feedback from attendees and participants of the Accessibility Lab, that it should be hosted on Brightspace Community permanently.
This D2L Accessibility Lab is a response to those requests. It has been modeled after the Fusion Lab with enhancements based on suggestions made by Fusion attendees.
We are happy and excited to offer this Lab as a resource available to customers all year-round through the Brightspace Learning Center.
Who Is It For?
The Accessibility Lab is valuable to anyone interested in the topic of accessibility.
