What Is It?
Available to all Brightspace Clients, this free resource introduces 3 quick and easy ways to improve the accessibility of your written communications.
Ever wondered what a screen reader says, or how it reads out your instructions?
Catch a ride on the Learning Center School Bus to find out:
- What is alternative text, and how can I use it inside and outside of Brightspace?
- What are descriptive hyperlinks and why are they important?
- What is directional language, and how can I be more precise to help guide a Learner to a given resource?
How was this Resource Developed?
This resource was designed and developed with the assistance of a member of our team who uses a screen reader. The audio of the screen reader has been included in some of these learning materials. This helps answer the question that some may have about: what does a screen reader say/sound like?
We focus on examples of written communication in emails, learning material, public online forums like our Brightspace Community, and navigation inside of Brightspace because we recognize many of our Community members are also working in similar spaces at their own places of learning.
Who Is It For?
Whether you work at a Help Desk, as part of the Learning and Development Compliance Team for a large company, or are an Educator who wants to learn how you can quickly improve the overall accessibility of your written communications with your students- we feel this resource will be of value to you.
