We're releasing a new Freemium offering on the Learning Center. This article will explain how you can use this resource to help you prepare Brightspace quizzes for exporting and printing.
What is it?
The Quiz Printer is a widget that you can utilize on Course Offering homepages to assist Administrators and Instructors in creating printer-friendly versions of your existing quizzes in Brightspace. This widget works with the Quiz tool in Brightspace and is not intended to be a replacement for it.
This tool will create an HTML document in your web browser based on your quizzes in a Course Offering, which you can then print directly or copy into a document creation tool for editing. It was created by one of D2L’s Learning Administration Managers (LAMs), Johnny Bayerl, who is part of our Optimization Services team.
Why did we create it?
Based on long-standing feedback from instructors and Brightspace administrators, Johnny recognized the need for an improved solution for printing quizzes directly from Brightspace. Leveraging insights gathered from recent work with the Brightspace APIs, he identified a pathway to address this printing challenge. While this resource may not yet be a perfect solution, he believes it is a practical step forward, designed to assist our community in the immediate term.
We hope it inspires continued innovation and resource sharing within the Brightspace Community.
How does it work?
The Quiz Printer widget utilizes our public APIs to retrieve the existing Quizzes in a Course Offering and the questions and details within each to generate an HTML document in your web browser. How the widget displays and functions may be dependent on which web browser you are using. The widget was developed using our Supported Browsers, specifically Google® Chrome™.

Add the Widget to Your Own Brightspace Learning Environment
Select the zip file found at the beginning of the article, to download a copy of the tool. Open the file to find a README.txt file that will include installation instructions, or follow the instructions later in this article Access the Course to see a full video walkthrough and more information.
In your own Brightspace Learning Environment you can implement this widget in just a single course, across your organization, or in a select part of your organization. Depending on how you want it implemented, create a “quiz_printer” folder to upload the contents of the zip file into. Then create a widget, uncheck the Widget is Sandboxed option, and copy the HTML contents from the ‘quiz_printer.txt’ file into the Source Code of the Content section of the widget. Add the widget onto a homepage to utilize in a Course Offering.
