Questions and Answers from the Event🙋♀️
Which activities will and won't have new display pages?
New pages will be available for Assignments, Quizzes, Discussion topics, and External Learning Tool (LTI) links. Other Brightspace activities like Checklists and Surveys, and resource topics like HTML pages, weblinks, etc. will get improved pages in NCE at a later date.
When will the new pages be rolled out to my learning instance?
We’ve encountered an issue that needs to be sorted out before we can GA the new display pages in NCE for assessable activities. The plan was to release in January, but at this point, we don’t have a new release date.
What are the filter options?
You'll find options specific to the type of activity; for example, the options for a Quiz will be Attempted, Not Attempted, and Exempt. The filter options will be expanded in the future.
What sorting options are available?
Sorting within Completion Summary is not available at this time.
When learners participate in an activity, will it open in a new window?
Learners can submit their Assignment directly on the new page. Discussion topics open in a dialog from the new page. Quizzes will open in a new tab.
Will learners have the option to open the assessment in a new tab so they can search and reference other Brightspace materials without accidentally navigating away?
Learners should open Brightspace in a new tab and switch between the assignment and new tab to reference other materials.
Is the view of an assignment identical whether students access it as an activity embedded in Content or from the Assignments Tool in the navigation bar?
The view for students within the Assignments tool is not changing. This is something we'll consider in the future in order to align the student experiences across tools.
Will release conditions or activities with release conditions be impacted?
There is no change to which activities with release conditions appear to learners in NCE. New release condition types are not being introduced at this time.
Will the Classic Content Experience or the Learner Experience also have the new pages?
The focus right now is on improving the New Content Experience. There are no plans to make the new pages available in the other content experiences.
How will the new pages appear in Pulse?
Pulse is not changing, though we would like to see alignment between NCE and Pulse. No plans are in place at this time.
Can we override the language terms on the new pages?
Yes, the labels on the page can be customized within Language Management like you would change or add text to labels within other Brightspace tools.
Will instructors still attach rubrics through the evaluation and feedback widget?
There are not changes to workflows surrounding editing of activities including rubrics. Instructors can continue to manage rubrics when editing the activity in NCE.
Will the view of an assignment for educators align with the advanced assessment workflows also in development?
The view for educators is purposefully being kept simple to reflect the high-level state of the activity. The view will not include detailed status of evaluation specific to the evaluator that is viewing the page's specific evaluation status; for example, “feedback saved as draft”, “ready for score aggregation”, “ready for publishing” etc. is too complex and workflow-specific, and will be represented elsewhere.
Does this work with Google Assignment integration?
Yes. Both should work for when Google Assignment is setup as an LTI content topic or as a link inside the description of the Brightspace Text-Only Assignment.
Does this completion summary view also work with the Google Assignment integration within Brightspace?
The Completion Summary will display the activity completion status and grade as recorded in Brightspace. If your workflow involves evaluating a Google Assignment within the Brightspace grade book then the grade will surface in Completion Summary.
Does Turnitin Feedback show to leaners when clicking on feedback button?
If you're using the older Turnitin integration embedded into Assignments, the link to TII feedback, grademark, and originality score appears on the dialog that opens when clicking the feedback button.
With the new LTI version of Turnitin, learners will continue to see the TII interface as part of the content topic linked to TII.
