Within this article, we outline points, badges, and ranks and how your actions and participation can earn them!

Let's take a quick look at each of the elements of the Brightspace Community gamification system. Gamification boosts our community spirit because it taps into one of humanity's most primitive ideals: the Desire2Compete.
💯 How Do I Earn Points?
Community Members can earn points by answering questions, receiving positive reactions from their answers, unlocking achievements, earning badges, and other activities.
Here are a few things you can do to earn points within the Brightspace Community:
Start a conversation! We want to help improve your Brightspace experience and get you connected with peers across various education settings who are transforming the way the world learns.
Commenting on a Community Members Question
It’s all of us who make the Community! We love all our members chiming in and having wonderful conversations inside the Community. This not only inspires conversations but let’s product experts learn from you to enhance your experience.
Providing an Accepted Response
We love when Community members find, share and connect here inside the Community. What’s better, you’ve provided a response that has been marked by the Community as being endorsed as the “best answer”! Get bonus points when your response is endorsed as a accepted response.
What other reason do you need to join events other than your Desire2Learn more about Brightspace? We know! Points and badges to climb up the leaderboard and bragging rights in front of your peers.
Reactions
Reactions are a feature that helps people build their reputation. With it, users can share how they feel about a post by giving it one of many reactions, such as Like, Agree, and Promote.
🥇 How Do I Climb Ranks?
What’s a little gamification without ranks and moving upwards! Get recognized for all your experience inside the Community. We have currently set up ranks inside the Community to establish checkpoints and celebrate the points you have accumulated over time.

What Permissions Are Associated With Achieved Ranks?
Observer- You are now able to send Private Messages to other Community Members.
Sprout- You now have the ability to edit your own posts within the Community site.

How Do I Know What Ranks I Have Earned?
You will be able to see your current rank inside your Community Profile. To access your profile,
- Click you Profile Icon through the Community Navbar
- Select your Username
Once your profile is open, you will be able to see the rank next to your profile name.
⏸️What Does the Inactive Rank Mean?
Community members who are no longer a member are assigned the 'inactive' rank.
This may account for a D2L're who has left the company or a member who is no longer with their organization. In these instances, all content created by this member will remain in the Community.
🏵️ What Are Badges All About?
Badges serve to recognize and reward accomplishments and Brightspace Community participation.
All badges are configured with a criteria that determine how/when they're awarded. The criteria can be:
- Action-based (e.g., the member uploads a profile picture),
- Threshold-based (e.g., member has been a member for five years),
- Reaction-based (e.g., member’s comment received five likes).
The flexibility of badges means that members can be directly and indirectly awarded for their participation; and when a user earns a badge, it displays on their profile where others can see how engaged they have been.
How Do I Know What Badges I Have Earned?
Access your Profile from the main navbar.
From here you will see a list of any Badges that you have earned.
📝Note: You can see the action associated with the badge by hovering over the badge.
A list of earned badges displays in the lower portion of your profile.
