Video: Release Highlights
General Announcements
- As of 1 August 2024 the Brightspace Tutorials YouTube channel is updated to have only recent, up-to-date videos that reflect current Brightspace workflows. As part of that update, we have unlisted outdated videos that no longer accurately capture Brightspace's current interface and experience. The specified videos on the Brightspace Tutorials YouTube channel are unlisted, and embedded video links in our documentation are updated with up-to-date videos exhibiting the workflow. On October 31, all the specified outdated videos will be permanently removed. To view the list of videos and learn more about this initiative, refer to Unlisting and Removal of Brightspace Tutorials Videos.
- Documentation about the Course Merchant Reporting Layer is coming to Community in September 2024. This includes a virtual tour of all standard modules and instructions for creating reports and other common workflows. The legacy Course Merchant Knowledge Base will go offline at a later date.
- As of this release, Brightspace Virtual Assistant is renamed to Lumi Chat and is now available as part of End User Support Lite. Brightspace Virtual Assistant, now Lumi Chat, is an AI-powered support tool integrated into Brightspace. The tool allows users to ask product questions directly within Brightspace and receive user-specific, contextual documentation from Brightspace Community.
- In the Organizational Units Brightspace Data Set, the value of the Version column has been updated due to improvements to our backend database system. Data Hub users will notice the value is much larger, but this column still represents the order in which the records were updated.
- The tooltips in the Assignments and Discussions evaluation experiences now use in-browser experiences. This feature improves accessibility for screen-reader users and creates visual consistency across Brightspace.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) configuration variables now appear in the Config Variable Browser. These configuration variables are non-functional unless the CPD tool is enabled for your organization. The CPD tool is part of the D2L for Associations add-on package released in June 2024/20.24.6.
- As of this release, Advanced Assessment always displays the coordinate multi-evaluators regardless of allocation rule or number of evaluators selected. This ensures that instructors can return to and review or edit the options in Assignment creation, even if the multi-evaluator assignment is in a course where the number of instructors has been reduced to one. This also allows instructors to potentially change the assignment to a single shared one if submissions and evaluations have not been received.

Analytics Builder – Share dashboards with role-based groups | Updated
Analytics Builder dashboards provide resources and report information to users in your Brightspace environment. To improve the scale at which administrators and report authors can distribute information, it is now possible to share resources with a group in a similar way as it was previously possible to only share with individual users. Administrators can grant the Insights > Can Use Analytics Builder (Org) permission to existing Brightspace roles. Analytics Builder automatically creates groups based on roles that have the Can Use Analytics Builder permission using the format: BrightspaceRoleName-RoleID. For example: ProgramAdministrator-103.
|
Note: Special characters, whitespace, and non-Latin-based characters are stripped out of the group names. |
If a user's role changes, that user is automatically moved to the Analytics Builder group that corresponds to their new role. If a role is deleted, the corresponding Analytics Builder group is also deleted. Updates to group membership in Brightspace are expected to appear in Analytics Builder within a day.
|
Note: If a user's role changes in Brightspace, they may remain a member of the previous group for up to a day beyond the role update. At that time, the user is removed from the previous group membership and added to the group appropriate to their new role, as expected. |
To share resources and dashboards with groups, authors can use the same workflow as they have previously used for individual users, and can designate the group as either Viewer (all members of the group can view, export, and print the shared resource), or Co-owner (all members of the group can view, export, print, share, and delete the shared resource).
Figure: Invite a user or group to the dashboard and indicate if you want to provide Viewer or Co-owner privileges.
Technical Details
Impact:
- Moderate impact to administrators who can now share dashboards with pre-built user groups in Analytics Builder.
Availability:
- This feature is available to all clients who have the Performance+ add on package and have Analytics Builder enabled.
To enable:
- This functionality is automatically enabled for Performance+ users who have Analytics Builder.
- This functionality is dependent on the Insights > Can Use Analytics Builder (Org) permission.
- This functionality is not dependent on any new or existing configuration variables.
