Whether you are new to using Content, or have been working with it for some time. This is a list of resources that will support your success with Content in Brightspace.
Content overview
What is Content?
Content (formerly known as New Content Experience, NCE, or Lessons) in Brightspace is a modernized approach to creating, organizing, and delivering course content. Designed with simplicity, accessibility, and engagement in mind, Content helps instructors and learners focus on what matters most — teaching and learning.
With Content, you can simplify workflows, improve learner navigation, and reduce time spent managing course materials. Empower educators with faster content creation and learners with a more focused, visually clean experience—backed by continuous enhancements and long-term support.
Important Announcements
We have announced our intent to End of Life both Classic Content and Learner Experience.
Following this announcement, support for these two experiences will focus on critical defects. New feature development will be focused on Content.
What's New?
Content has come a long way in the last few years. It offers a cleaner, less complex way to manage course material, without sacrificing the core functionality users rely on.
⭐ Key differentiators
- Streamlined workflows: Consistent creation and editing screens simplify how content is built and updated.
- Seamless activity access: Learners can view and complete Assignments, Quizzes and Discussions through consistent pages directly within Content.
- Simple course layout: A modern, mobile-friendly and colour-coded layout helps instructors and learners stay organised and aligned across devices.
- Timely support: Instructors can evaluate and message learners from the Completion Summary, making it easier to follow up on overdue tasks.
- Enhanced Lumi integration: Lumi Insights and Lumi Content Modify and Remix help instructors personalise and improve learning experiences.
- Content availability alerts: Learners can be notified when previously hidden content becomes available, helping ensure that important materials are not missed.
✅ Recent improvements
- Immersive Reading View: Allows users to focus on learning and completing course material by hiding the Brightspace navigation. This is an optional configuration.
- Support for existing course structures: Courses built in Classic Content, including courses with deep content structures, can appear seamlessly in Content without needing to be rebuilt.
- Improved search and findability: Instructors can search for modules and topics more easily when creating and managing course content.
- Learner completion tracking: Gives learners a clear view of their progress, including module-level rollups.
- Next and Previous navigation: Helps learners move sequentially through topics and follow the intended flow of a course.
- Due dates on Discussion topics: Helps instructors communicate expectations and gives learners clearer information about upcoming work.
- Visibility outside availability dates: Allows institutions to show learners what is coming next while keeping unavailable content inaccessible.
- Improved accessibility: Content includes improved keyboard navigation and more consistent interaction patterns.
- More efficient content workflows: Lumi tools and other workflow improvements help instructors modify, remix, organise and improve content more efficiently.
