Roles and Permissions

We are currently evaluating options to lock down our Master Course Offerings to prevent unauthorized or accidental edits by Course Builders, and I’d love to learn how other institutions handle this. Our Setup & Constraints: Hierarchy: Organization > Department > Course Template > Course Offering Master Location: Housed…

How do we set the direct reports to a manager. We see the error There are no users who report to you. You may have been granted access to the Manager Dashboard in error or the tool configuration may be in progress. Contact your administrator for further details.

My organisation is using the Teams connector to automatically create a team every time a section/ course is created on the system. We recently had an issue where courses and sections were duplicated resulting in the unfortunate duplications pushing to Teams. The duplicated courses have been removed both on Brightspace and…

I'm looking for advice on the best way to configure a custom role in Brightspace. We have a set of master course shells that serve as the source for instructors to copy content into their teaching course offerings. We'd like to have two different levels of access: Course caregivers: Full Instructor permissions so they can…

What is the variable for instructors to see the option to create a new award in a course? My instructors can see the "add" button, but the create button is missing.

Where is the documentation for what permissions are needed to call a specific API endpoint? There are 963 permissions. It is not reasonable to ask us to go through them all to try to guess which permissions are needed. I have searched for about an hour now, and I couldn't find anything Specifically, I am trying to call the…

I'm wanting to use the Calendar widget on the main Organization homepage as a way to help maintain a global calendar of upcoming training events. However, there are certain events that I only want to make available to certain user roles or groups. I see that you're able to do this at the course level and can restrict…

Our suborg admins would like to be able to impersonate users within their suborg. We have those permissions turned on for that role, but realized we likely need to have the permissions turned on for the learner role as well, since that is how suborg admins are enrolled at the org level. While we don't want learners to be…

I am developing a custom LTI status widget designed to allow users to add or remove a target module within a Tool Deployment. The goal is to empower Module Leaders to manage this tool directly within their courses. Currently, the API calls within the widget function correctly when executed by a Super Admin, but they fail…

We want to enable Single Sign-On for Brightspace using Microsoft Entra ID via SAML. I don't see option for SAML administration under security in tools. Looked though permissions and SAML is nowhere to be found.

We have recently moved to a distributed administration structure, and it appears that our instructors are no longer able to create shared folders or add collaborators to existing folders in the media library. I suspect this may be because of the users permissions that are required for the instructor role to do this, but…

how does brightspace help protect the intellectual property when the learners are attached to risky internet service providers. I am studying with the national payroll institute of Canada who uses brightspace and I recently was stuck in a shady automotive repairs shop for half a day. While they played around inside the…

We are brand new to D2L and are in the middle of train the trainer and my faculty would like a demo student. I found several different things. One said turn this account on, another said just add a role and a user. I found this morning where you can use and API to enroll the account automatically in courses. I found other…

Hi folks, Does anyone know why I might be getting an internal error for one role type when they try to access a survey from the content? I'm using the new content experience. The role with the issue can view as learner and access the survey without issue. I have checked permissions and have the following set for 'Survey'…

I had the following unfortunate experience today. I wanted to better understand how to import and export grades. So I tried to use my sandbox course to create a dummy grade list. To get a grade list I need students in my course. I discovered that I can only add people who actually exist in my organization. I did not want…
