Our goal is to provide our customers with data access in a performant, complete, and understandable way. This means we need to periodically have major version releases for Brightspace Data Sets (BDS). In addition to making some major changes, we also made some minor changes, such as introducing new columns.
In the upcoming major BDS Major Version 11 (targeted for February 2026/20.26.02 release), the following data sets will be affected:
RUBRICS
Change:
- Removal of the following column: UserId (PK)
Reason:
UserId was removed to reduce redundancy because this information is already available in Rubric Assessment BDS.
Impact:
- Rubrics Assessment Criteria needs to be joined with Rubric Assessment on AssessmentId to determine the UserId.
- Rubrics Assessment Criteria will now deduplicate records with matching UserId. Records that used to be differentiated by UserId will now be represented as one record to remove duplicates.
OUTCOMES
Change:
- Removal of the following column: RegistryId
Reason:
This column is being removed as it no longer provides meaningful value. Historically, it duplicated the information already captured by the Organization ID. Since August 2024, following changes to how data is structured, this column has increasingly contained zero values, further reinforcing its redundancy. Its removal helps streamline the dataset and reduce noise.
Impact:
- Minimal to no impact since the column value has contained zero values.
Change:
- Outcomes Program Details BDS will be removed/EOL and replaced by 2 new BDS: Outcomes Set Course BDS and Outcomes Set Org BDS
Reason:
We introduced 2 new data sets in the November 2025/20.25.11 release, Outcomes Set Course BDS and Outcomes Set Org BDS, to strengthen the backend infrastructure for Outcome Sets and support future enhancements.
These data sets are intended to replace the Outcomes Program Details and Outcomes Registry Owner data sets and include historical data to ensure continuity. All 4 data sets will become available with the November 2025/20.25.11 release and during the transition period from BDS Major Version 10 to BDS Major Version 11 to give clients time to adjust their reporting.
Impact:
- Programs are transitioning to Outcome Sets. From now on, all data in Outcomes Program Details can now be found in Outcomes Set Org.
- The RegistryId for your programs has moved from Outcomes Registry Owners to Outcomes Set Org so you can find all your outcome set data for your org defined outcome sets in one place.
- Any columns that share the same name between Outcomes Program Details and Outcomes Set Org will continue to represent the same data.
- Some columns have been renamed but still represent that same data. You can find the mapping below:

We introduced 2 new data sets in the November 2025/20.25.11 release, Outcomes Set Course BDS and Outcomes Set Org BDS, to strengthen the backend infrastructure for Outcome Sets and support future enhancements.
These data sets are intended to replace the Outcomes Program Details and Outcomes Registry Owner data sets and include historical data to ensure continuity. - Outcomes Registry Owner information will now be captured by Outcomes Set Org and Outcomes Set Course. Where you can find your data will depend on the OutcomeRegistryOwner.OwnerType.

QUESTIONS
Change:
- CreationDate column is now NULLABLE (this may happen if a record is hard deleted)
- All Datetime and Bit fields will be updated to use consistent formatting as per Enhancing Consistency : Upcoming Updates to Brightspace Data Sets
- Unique Constraint on ObjectId and QuestionVersionId will be removed
- Unique Constraint will be added to ObjectId and QuestionId
- Removal of Question Pool records
Reason:
These changes are being made to be able to continue to provide this data in a performant way.
Impact:
- Records relating to questions within a Question Pool will no longer be surfaced within the Question Relationship BDS and instead will be surfaced within the new Question Pools BDS. Note that the pool itself (which is equivalent to a section) will still be surfaced within the Question Relationships BDS (where IsQuestionPool is TRUE). The SectionId can be linked to the new Question Pools BDS to retrieve all the questions available within the question pool.

1. How do we enable BDS Major version 11 in Data Hub?
- Ensure the Can See/Edit Config Variable Values and Can Access Brightspace Data Sets permissions are both granted to administrators at the org level.
- Navigate to Config Variable Browser.
- Under Tools, click to select BrightspaceDatasets, and then click Version.
- Ensure the d2l.Tools.BrightspaceDataSets.Version configuration variable is set to version 11.0 or higher.
2. When will the new BDS Major Version Datasets be available?
Our release target for BDS Major Version 11 is February 2026/20.26.02. New and changed Brightspace Data Sets (BDS) appear after the first full data set runs after the major version release.
3. What is the BDS replacement and End of Life timeline?
- In November 2025/20.25.11, Outcomes Set Org BDS and Outcomes Set Course BDS will be available in BDS Version 10.
- In February 2026/20.26.02, BDS Version 11 will be available and the Question Pools BDS will be available.
- For 3 releases (20.26.03, 20.26.04, 20.26.05) both BDS Version 10 and BDS Version 11 will be available.
- In June 2026/20.26.06, only BDS Version 11 will be available and the Outcomes Program Details BDS and Outcomes Registry Owners BDS are EOL.
