What is a Source Course?
The new Source Course org unit acts as an iterative model for you to create and update course material for a frequently-re-offered course. Source courses are available to all users in Brightspace Core following the October 20.25.10 release.
Users can access and begin creating a source course by navigating to the Courses tool and selecting the Source Courses tab.
Create a Source Course
In the Source Courses tab in the Courses tool, click Create Source Course. From the dialog, you can choose an existing course to duplicate as a new source course or start by creating a blank source course.
If you select an existing course, all the details of that course are duplicated in a new source course.
When creating a new blank source course, enter a Name, Code, and Template for your source course. Optionally, select a Department.
Your new source course appears in the Source Courses tab and can be selected to edit and create course content as you would for any other course offering.
Re-offer a Source Course
The Re-offer functionality allows for easily redistributing a course without the manual process of Course Copy. With Re-offer, you can distribute a source course to fulfill yearly employee compliance, to retrain employees in ever-changing industry standards, or to provide an updated version of a course for a new school year or semester.
From the Source Courses tab, select the context menu for any source course and click Re-offer to begin the re-offer process.
Like a regular course offering, re-offered courses require a Name, Code, and Template, with the option to add a Semester, Start Date, and End Date.
By default, a re-offered course is set to Active and is pre-populated with the Department and Course Template from the source course.
After your re-offered course is ready, you can begin enrolling learners into the course.
If you want to view a source course’s associated course offerings in detail, visit the Source Course Information page in Course Admin for your desired source course.
