Insights Report Builder (IRB) provides you with access to your Brightspace Data Sets (BDS) so that you can leverage them easily to meet your reporting needs. IRB is not for long-term storage of obsolete versions of Brightspace Data Sets.
To ensure the accuracy of reports in IRB, you must adopt the BDS Major version changes in IRB, preferably when the BDS Major version is set as the default BDS version or within seven (7) months of the BDS major version release. You must update any assets you have created such as dataflows, reports, and dashboards in IRB so that they will result in up-to-date and accurate reports.
After the seven (7) month adoption period, D2L will delete the older obsolete version of BDS and corresponding assets such as dataflows, cards, reports, and dashboards utilizing the obsolete version of BDS in IRB. Please note that old versions of BDS contribute to your contractual storage limits. Therefore, this change will be effective immediately (July 2023) to assist with managing storage volumes.
Change Management Details
Four (4) months after the release date of a major Brightspace Data Set (BDS) version, D2L will set that new major version as the default BDS version in Brightspace Data Hub and Insights Report Builder (IRB).
Three (3) months after a BDS major version becomes the new default version, D2L will delete older, obsolete versions of BDS in Insights Report Builder. We will also delete corresponding dataflows, cards, reports, and dashboards that use obsolete versions of BDS to avoid having orphaned assets that are difficult to track, maintain, and delete.
To summarize, customers have seven (7) months to adopt a BDS major version in IRB from the time the major version is released in IRB.
Until August 2023, there was an adoption period of nine (9) months, which is being revised to seven (7) months going forward.
Therefore, for BDS Major Version 8:
BDS Major Version 9 onwards, there will be seven (7) months adoption period after which BDS Major Version 8 will be deleted. Stay tuned to learn when BDS Major Version 9 will be available.
If you have any questions or feedback, then please share it with your D2L account representative.
