Hello Brightspace Community,

We are currently analyzing the Grades Report, and we are trying to break down the unique number of grades received overall by Majors, Years of Study etc.

Wondering if there are any tips or templates for pivot tables in Excel.

Thanks in advance!!

    Hi @Marina.S.2225,

Thank you for your question! While Brightspace doesn’t provide official templates for Excel PivotTables, you can absolutely use the Grades Report data to create your own breakdowns by Majors, Year of Study, and other categories.

Here are a few tips to get started:

    • Prepare your data: Ensure your Grades Report includes the fields you want to analyze (e.g., Major, Year of Study, Grade) and that it’s formatted as a clean table in Excel.
    • Insert a PivotTable:
      • Select your data range → InsertPivotTable.
      • Place the PivotTable in a new worksheet for easier management.
    • Configure your fields:
      • Add Major and/or Year of Study to the Rows.
      • Add Grade to Values (use Count for the number of grades or Average for mean grade).
    • Unique counts:
      • When creating the PivotTable, check the option to Add this data to the Data Model. This allows you to use Distinct Count for unique values.
    • For more advanced analysis, Excel’s Power Pivot feature can help with distinct counts and complex relationships.
