A.I. use in discussions?

Is anyone use A.I. in their online discussions (e.g., rewriting/improving discussion prompts and replies to student posts) or in other ways in their courses?

If your referring to Intelligent Agents, they can have release conditions that need to be met before it is triggered within the Brightspace system. There are three types of release conditions that can be set for online discussion board (as shown below). Which are post authored in topic, score associated rubric or no post authored in topic. So if I wanted to have to provide feedback based on the grade they recieved on the associated rubric for their discussion post, I can have different IAs set up so they will be sent to the student based on their score on the rubric. OR even simplier have a IA set up after they post to remind them to reply to their peers.

Hello! We have not used A.I. in this way at our organization, but I have listened to a podcast where this and things like it are done, and it seems to work well. I am interested to see where this can take us!

Great question, John!
As AI language models quickly improve, it's always good to look for ways we can work alongside those tools while being cautious of their limitations.Using AI language models in discussions could be useful when you need to:- adjust the phrasing of an existing discussion prompt to accommodate for different learner levels
- write prompts from a given perspective
- generate responses tailored to a specific student post in a specific voice
Areas where you might want to heed caution include:
- using AI to generate responses as yourself, this may come off as ingenuine
- using AI generated outputs which include factual statements, these should always be fact checked
- ensuring the key terms, tone, reading level align with your learning objectives
I'd also suggest checking with your institute's policies around using AI for creative efforts before implementing it into your daily best practices.

Thanks for all the useful info, Denis. Do you know of any instructor actually AI in their discussions, or any part of their course?

@John.Thompson880 Personally, I do not know of any instructors using AI in their discussions currently. I'll keep my eyes peeled for instances as they're shared with us.
