Re: How do I get access to the Product Idea Exchange?
Hi @Peggy.R.1517,
Thank you for reaching out to the Brightspace Community!
No separate login is needed to access PIE. If you're logged into Community, you should be able to access PIE automatically by accessing under Quick Links (right side of the page) or under Resources tab.
If you're still not able to access, no worries, it's a quick fix! Please follow the steps outlined in this article to re-initiate the verification that will connect you to PIE on your next login to our Community:

Re: How do you create a quiz where students only answer 5 out of 8 questions?
Hello,
I think you are on the right track with your thinking above. Here is what I would do:
- Set up 8 separate Assignments with your question prompts (1 for each assignment). Make each assignment its own Grade book item. You can add start and end/due dates to these 8 items to make them visible only during the exam time.
- In the grade book, create a category and put all 8 Assignment grade items under it. Do one of the following:
- Make a custom formula grade item ( ) that drops the 3 lowest scores.
- (MY PREFERENCE) Use the Gradebook "Exempt" function to exempt each learner's three lowest scores in that category - note that this approach is more manual, but probably easier to set up than a formula grade. This will also allow you to manage bonus questions (eg, mark all 6 submissions from a learner and exempt their 2 unanswered assignments).

Re: What is the stable version of D2L Brightspace API version ?
Hi @amila.kudahewa@pearson.com
Thank you for reaching out to Brightspace Community!
The following APIs can be used to get the latest versions:

Re: Visibility of question banks
Hi @Sue.S.4 ,
Best practice is that student permissions only allow them to Take a Quiz, in which case, they would be able to see any questions associated with a quiz they have access to attempt. If new questions are being added when the quiz is available, students would be able to see those questions.
There are no permissions that give access to Question Pools specifically. See Quiz Permissions and descriptions:
It is difficult to understand the workflow being used when it is described as "adding new question banks to the subject students are studying". If that means question banks are being added to a quiz that a student has access to, then they would have access to those questions as long as the quiz is available.
Availability can be restricted using the Start and End dates. These determine when students will be able to see the quizzes, access the quiz, and the amount of time it is available.
- Start Date: Specify the date when your quiz becomes available to learners.
- End Date: Specify the date when your quiz is no longer available.
I would suggest reviewing the quiz setup and the workflow in place to determine if best practices are being used. If you are still getting an odd result, contacting D2L Support would be the next step.

Janet
Re: Intelligent Agents
Hi! I use IAs a lot and I am not sure you can fully accomplish what you want here, unless you also get a bit tricky with your gradebook/formula grade items and use multiple IAs. Here is what I am thinking:
IA 1 - Learner drops below a passing score
First, in the gradebook, create a formula grade item (instructions here: ). I'm just guessing here, so note that you might have to play around with this suggestion a bit to make it work… Your formula grade item should include all your grade items together as a weighted grade, minus any unsubmitted/"0" grades. This will give you the learner average score in the course.
In the IA, set the Schedule to Daily, every 1 day
Set the Release Condition as: Grade value on a grade item > Your custom FORMULA grade item > Criteria "<" and Grade as [Passing grade]
Set the Action to Repeat every time the agent is evaluated and the agent's criteria is satisfied
IA 2 - Learner misses a due date (will need to set these up for each due date, unless all assignments have the same due date)
In the IA, set the Schedule to Daily, every 1 day and add a Start Date (the due date for the assignment)
Set the Release Condition: No submission to Folder > Folder name
Set the Action to Repeat every time the agent is evaluated and the agent's criteria is satisfied
Hope this helps!
Re: How can I insert a student's first name in the body of an email using a replace string?
Hi Peggy,
Thank you for reaching out!
At this moment, the use of replace strings in the email tool is not a feature available within BrightSpace
We would suggest you submit a feature request regarding this issue for it to be considered in future releases as potential changes. You can find the product idea exchange page by checking the Navbar on the community page or following the link below.

Re: API Use to upload Common Cartridge, convert, create offering
Hi James,
I hope you’re having a great week! Thank you for reaching out with your API question.
While the Valence API doesn't provide a single API call to upload a Common Cartridge ZIP, convert it, and create a course offering all at once, you can accomplish this in two steps:
- POST /d2l/api/lp/(version)/courses/ > This API will allow you to create a new course offering.
- POST /d2l/api/le/(version)/import/(orgUnitId)/imports > This API will do the import and handle the conversion of the Common Cartridge ZIP into your course structure.
Unfortunately, there isn't an API available that does both steps in one call. You will need to create the course first and then import the package into the course separately. For more details on these APIs and their parameters, please refer to the full list of available API calls in the Valence API documentation.
If you have any further questions about setting up these API calls or need assistance with their parameters, I’d recommend checking out our developer community platform for additional resources and support.
Let me know if you need any further clarification or assistance!

Re: What is the proper format for making an AJAX PUT request?
With the help of D2L support, we have arrived at a functioning API call.
$.ajax({
url: '/d2l/api/le/1.26/6711/grades/319/values/184',
type: 'PUT',
data: JSON.stringify({
"Comments": { "Content": "", "Type": "Text" },
"PrivateComments": { "Content": "", "Type": "Text" },
"GradeObjectType": 3,
"Value": "Late"
}),
headers: {
'X-CSRF-TOKEN': localStorage.getItem("XSRF.Token")
}
});
We were pointed to the fact that this API call requires a JSON parameter, yet our data was not correctly formatted as JSON. JSON.stringify solves this issue. The X-Csrf-Token is also required. We found locally that the result from that API call mentioned above that is identical to the localStorage item, when you're making the call from within the Brightspace environment.
It feels good to have this operational!

Hello @Brigette.B.537
Thank you for reaching us through Brightspace Community!
HEIC file format is not supported with the Assignment/document viewer.
I have attached an community article on assignment submission:

Re: Quizzes - broken image while editing
We are encountering the same issue, instructors editing quiz questions with image files cannot see the images during the editing process. I've noticed two variations of this problem. In one case, the text editor displays a broken image icon, but in the other there is no indication in the WYSIWYG editor that an image is present in the question.
