Re: Permissions error on GET /d2l/api/le/1.83/{orgUnitId}/grades/values/descendants/
Thank you for reaching out to the Brightspace Community!. This looks like an issue related to missing some permissions in the grades tool. Apologies if you have already reviewed this but you may consider checking the following permissions required to retrieve Grades from API calls:
- See user grade values (API Only)
- Retrieve Grade Values for Course Offering Descendants (API Only)
We hope this helps and please feel welcome to reach out with more questions!
Best regards

Re: Quiz Printer Widget Limitations
@Kris.D.890, fantastic! Glad that worked out.
Thank you for that feedback. Our development team is still dedicated to implement similar printing functionality as part of our Quizzes tool directly, and hopefully that will be soon. As of this widget that I created now, if there was an ability for me to reach the data for those questions, I certainly would create something for that. However, currently, in the way this widget was created, I can only get at questions that are within a quiz. There's no current method for getting at questions in the Question Library (if there was, then Question Pools for the widget would also probably work, but that's a current limitation). Definitely opportunity for improvement in the future though, and your suggestion is what I would've told that person as well.
I'll pass along the feedback to our developers working on our Quizzing tool. Thank you again!

Re: Quiz Printer Widget Limitations
@Kris.D.890, apologies, that was an oversight on my part on the initial release. I've already published a new version of the widget that will now display more than just 20 questions. Please download the zip file again for the Quiz Printer Widget and update the files where you implemented them in your site (particularly the script.js file and that should fix it).
Hope that helps!

Re: Punnett squares on Brightspace biology genetics quizzes
Hi, Peggy.
One possible way that would allow them to type into it directly would be to create a Written Response question, enable the "Add initial text" option, then paste a text-based representation of a Punnett into that so that when they get to the question they can type into the pre-populated answer box… although I doubt this would serve you that well since it would have to be manually graded.
Here's the example of a text representation of a Punnett I found when I googled—I just emptied some of the inner boxes:
| B | b |
---+-----+-----
B | . | . |
---+-----+-----
b | . | . |
---+-----+-----
Hmm… it seems to strip out empty spaces when I paste. Here's a screenshot instead:
Re: Known Issues List Updates
Hi Naimi,
Thank you so much for including a downloadable link to the "Known Issues List" in your posts as well as flagging the new ones! It makes it much easier and faster for me to keep up to date.
Taking this one step further, it would be super fantastic if the post could include what was updated. Something like a bullet point with the Tools and Product Descriptions that were added would be amazing. This way everyone would know if I need to take a closer look immediately or not. We do not have all the tools/packages so many of the updates do not pertain to my institution.
Thanks for your consideration and hope that you have a lovely day!

Re: My student account can see only one other student in the ClassList
Hello, Kimberly,
Would you be able to confirm if the Students who are not appearing in the classlist are enrolled into a Section where your Learner is not enrolled?
Would it be possible to send me an URL to the course offering, so that I can take a look at it? And may I have your permission to impersonate your learner user?
Thank you kindly,

Re: AI Detection on Discussion Posts?
Hi, Melanie.
My understanding is that the much-desired capability for discussion-post scanning by Turnitin is planned but not yet released.
In a Turnitin-led webinar I attended in November 2024, they mentioned a future version/upgrade of Turnitin called "Asset Processor" which will allow Turnitin to become available in Brightspace Discussions and Quizzes. They said we should hear more about it hopefully summer 2025.
Custom Colors in New Content Experience Requirements
The July 2024 release notes specify three criteria for the new custom colors to be available:
With this update, the Display accordion appears on the Edit Content page if the module meets the following criteria:
- There is no parent above the module in the content navigation hierarchy
- The course uses a theme to set a navbar color and all modules are one cohesive color
- The instructor attempting to change the color of the module has the Edit Root Module Colors permission granted to their role.
I don't understand what the second one means. I know I've met the other two requirements, but the Display accordion is not displayed. Can someone explain what that second bullet point means and how I can check it?
Re: Can a Syllabus for a course/class be created directly in Brightspace?
Welcome to the Brightspace Community.
Sure! You may create your course syllabus straight from the Content tool.
- If you are using the Classic Content Experience, you can take the following steps to create a new file:
- Click Upload / Create
- Create File.
- If you are using the New Content Experience (Lessons):
`1) click 'Create new'
2) and then 'New Lesson'
- In either Content experience you are on, you will then be able to edit your syllabus using the Brightspace HTML tools as you wish.
I hope this is helpful.
