Fill in the blank submission view (show correct/incorrect answers)

(This is a follow-up to a question I asked several years ago. I'm starting a new thread for visibility. My apologies if I should have revived the old thread instead.)

I'm trying to set up a quiz that students can take more than once with only their highest score recorded. Is it possible to set up a Fill-in-the-Blanks question so that students will be able to see which blanks they filled in correctly vs. incorrectly, but without being shown the actual answers? (I was hoping this would be cleared up with the "new quiz experience," but it appears to still be an issue.)

Here is a screenshot showing the kind of thing I would like to include in my quiz:

As far as I can tell, there is no way to show students the breakdown of which blanks are correct and which are incorrect when they attempt the quiz. All they can see is the overall score for the question. Am I correct in my understanding of how this works? If so, this leads to a terrible student experience. It drives them crazy because they start second guessing correct answers.

I know that it's possible to show them the answers, but I want them to be able to retake the quiz and fix only the blanks that were filled with incorrect answers.

I am also aware that I can break this up into separate questions. I would rather avoid this, though, because it would result in an overly long and visually overwhelming quiz.

For reference, here is a PIE idea that pertains to the same issue: Identify blanks missd in Fill in the Blank Questions (D9359)

  • Hi there,

I don't think this is possible in the fill-in-the-blank question type. Unfortunately, the best way to do this is via its own question. To make it less overwhelming for your learners, you could structure your quiz to have x number of questions per page. This can make it less overwhelming, but still allows your learners to try again on the questions they got wrong.

    Hi Andre,
Thank you for reaching out to Brightspace community.

I want to confirm my understanding of your question. You are looking to set up a quiz in New quiz experience that allows multiple attempts, with only the highest score recorded. Additionally, you would like to know whether it’s possible for Fill-in-the-Blanks questions to show learners blanks that were answered correctly or incorrectly, without revealing the correct answers for the latter.

It seems you have already found a PIE item which is currently pending feedback/review with our internal teams. I was also able to find another PIE item below, could you please take a look and let me know if this aligns with your ask?

Allow for more granular quiz results display for marking incorrect answers on FiB questions: View Submission

In case you would still be needing any assistance from our end, could I please request you to open a support ticket regarding this in the ASC Portal and share all necessary details? That will allow us to assign a support agent who can investigate this further and see what's happening there.

    Thanks,
    Unaib Nazir
