Show correct/incorrect for fill in the blank questions?
(Note: I posted this question in a different category earlier, but have since been informed that "Customer Enablement" might be a better fit.)
I have a fill in the blanks question with five blanks. If a student correctly fills in all five blanks they get full points. If some of their responses are incorrect, they get partial credit. When they review their submission, they can see their score on the question overall but they tell me they can't see which responses were correct and which were incorrect.
How can I make it so that they can see which blanks were filled in correctly and which were filled in incorrectly?
They are allowed to take the quiz as many times as they like and only their highest score is recorded. I have a check mark in the "On new attempts, only allow answers for previously incorrect questions." Default submission view is as follows:
Date: immediately
Show Questions? Show all questions with user responses
Show question answers: No
Statistics: none

Hi Andre,
Since you have multiple attempts, you should use the Add Additional View under the Submission Views tab. This will allow you to be specific about what you want to happen after each attempt. The Default View is only what happens after the first attempt and possibly why they results aren't what you want.
Hope that helps!

Thanks, @Janet Wol228, but can you be more specific? I'm looking at the options for Add Additional View, but aside from adding date/IP/duration restrictions, the settings look exactly the same as for adjusting the Default View.
What do I need to change to allow students to see which blanks have been filled incorrectly without revealing the correct answer?

If you are using the New Quiz Creation Experience, it can be found under Evaluation and Feedback > Customize Quiz Results

I am not using the “New Quiz Creation Experience.” Have the display options been changed or are they the same as before?
What do I need to change (in the old quiz creation experience) to allow students to see which blanks have been filled incorrectly without revealing the correct answer?

To allow students to see which fill in the blank questions were answered incorrectly without showing the correct answer, go to Quizzes > Edit > Submission Views > Click on Default View > View Details - Show Questions? Answer: Yes and check the box to Show questions answered incorrectly > DO NOT check to show question answers > Save
You can impersonate a student to test this out that it is working as you want.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for your help with this, @Janet Wol228. Unfortunately, I'm still not getting the desired behavior.
I created a test quiz with a fill-in-the-blanks question containing two blanks:
And I adjusted the submission view settings to your specifications:
Here's the submission view when I run a preview of the quiz with the first blank filled in correctly and the second blank filled in incorrectly:
The submission view shows that I got one only one of the blanks right ("0.5 / 1 point"), but it does not indicate which one it is.
I would like for students to be able to distinguish between correct and incorrect responses in a fill-in-the-blanks question. How can I set that up?

Hi Andre,
My apologies for not reading your question more closely. You are correct, the only way to show the specific blank that was incorrect, you would need to check the box to Show question answers, then the attempt review identifies which blanks are correct, and which are incorrect. The downside is, it will also show the correct answer. 😕
I couldn't find any PIE items specifically related to this, so I would encourage you to submit one.

No need to apologize! Thanks for your help, @Janet Wol228.

It would be really nice to have a feature that does exactly what Andre was asking for, marking each blank in multiple-fill-in-the-blanks question as correct or incorrect, without revealing the answers to all the questions in the quiz. Blackboard had this option. Without the individual feedback option, multiple fill-in-the-blank questions are a pain in the neck, since now I have to manually write a comment listing all the incorrect blanks—for each student who missed something.

Hi @Oksana.K.359 and @Andre.Mount8810 ,
In response to your request, there is now a Product Idea Exchange (PIE) Item specific to this issue (D9359). It is currently In Review status, so I would encourage you to Vote it UP if/when you have time.Identify blanks missed in Fill in the Blank Questions (D9359)
Kind regards,
Janet
