Assessing Student Participation

Hi everyone,

My higher education institution is looking for ways to assess student participation, a way that's connected to the gradebook in order for participation to count towards 10% of a student's final grade.

What are some ways faculty do this?

I'd like to avoid creating a "participation rubric" as it would be tedious and time-consuming for faculty, and may be meaningless to students.

I welcome any ideas and help you can offer. TIA!

    Hi @Vanesa.K.936 ,

Thank you for reaching out in the Brightspace Community.

In this case, you may find the formula grade item helpful for the workflow you are trying to achieve.

This automatically grades users using a custom formula based on achievement on other grade items.

For example, give users who received at least 50% on all participation grade items a perfect attendance bonus.

You can find more information about this in the link -
