Can a grade category automatically drop Calculated grade items?

If a grade category in a points based gradebook is set up to drop the lowest score in that category, should Calculated grade items be included in the items that will be dropped?

If not, is there a way to set up a category so it will automatically drop Calculated grade items?

If I understand correctly, you have a grade category configured to drop the lowest grade item, and you're wondering whether this functionality also applies to Calculated grade items within that category.

Unfortunately, this is not currently supported.

Although Calculated grade items can be placed within a category for organizational or display purposes, they do not contribute to the category's subtotal calculations. These items are designed to calculate aggregate scores based on other selected grade items rather than function as individual graded activities, such as Numeric grade items.

As a result, the category's Drop Lowest setting does not consider Calculated grade items when determining which scores to exclude.

There is currently no built-in setting to automatically drop Calculated grade items within a category.

If your goal is to drop the lowest aggregate score (for example, the lowest of three module totals), you could consider using Formula grade items to calculate and exclude the lowest score.

This would require configuring a custom formula to achieve the desired calculation rather than relying on the category's built-in Drop Lowest setting.
