NLE in NCE

Question

Our University is transitioning to NCE in about 2 weeks. I am an instructor for a course that has a 40% of students on a mobile device.

When University's switch to NCE is the NLE configuration typically "On" instead of "Off"?

I ask this because if the NLE configuration is "Off" - the Surveys and Discussions open in a new tab, creating a bad experience for students on mobile devices. But if the NLE configuration is "On" - the Surveys and the Discussion open in the same tab and it is a seamless experience.

I know NCE is supposed to be mobile friendly but if a student is having new tabs open for Discussions, and Surveys that creates a back and forth that does not exist in the Classic Content. I'm just trying to ensure students remain in one browser window and not multiple.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Thank you Stephen I would appreciate that! It just creates confusion for student's on a mobile device to have to go to a new tab and then close that tab and go back to the previous tab to move forward in their coursework.

My apologies, I see what you're saying for the full loading of the Discussion pane like it does when the New Learner Experience is enabled.

Let me look into this a bit more and see if I can find any further information

Hi Stephen thank you for response.

Yes, the discussion does load in-line in NCE but as you can see from your screenshot - it says "Open Discussion", and then once a student clicks that the discussion board opens in a new tab and takes them away from their course. The new tab opens as the Discussion as a "Tool" and there are no navigation arrows for a student to move forward. They have to specifically go back to the other tab to move forward.

I just don't understand how NCE is more mobile user-friendly than the classic content, which has all content & activities/assignments open in one browser window? It just seems counterintuitive to have the student go to a separate window for the discussion and not be able to write on the current course screen they are on.

That is what I am trying to get at. In NLE a student is able to write on their discussion board and open surveys and complete everything in the one browser window. I just don't see why that wouldn't have continued for NCE.
