I need to create a 10-item quiz from a pool of 100 questions in the library. These 100 questions are organized into 5 sub-pools of 20 questions each. Is it possible to for the quiz to call only one of these sub-pools at a time, meaning all 10 questions should be from the same and only pool.

    Hello @M.M.9714,

The type of setup you're describing (pick 1 of 5 question pools, and draw 10 questions exclusively from the chosen pool) is not something our quizzes tool is purposefully designed for. You could pick either 10 questions from a single pool, or a select # of questions from multiple pools, but neither for these options are what I understand you're looking for.

A possible workaround — granted, it's a bit messy — would be to setup 5 separate quizzes, with each corresponding to the 5 sub-pools. Within each quiz, draw 10 questions from the available 20 in said sub-pool. Then, setup a group category comprised of 5 groups setup to auto-enroll users randomly within the 5 groups. Then, use these groups to release condition each of the 5 variants of the quiz to a different group.

The caveat with this type of 5 quiz / 5 group setup, however, is that you cannot map multiple quizzes to a single grade object. So you would end up with 5 different grade objects that represent each of the 5 quizzes (for all users). To counter that, you could setup a single grade object that would represent the quiz, and not sync the quizzes to a grade object. Instead, once all the users are assessed, you could manually transpose user grades into the gradebook for the singular quiz grade object. Again, its a messy setup…

Alternatively, you could keep the 5 different grade objects and setup a grade category to house them, then leverage the category settings to drop the lowest 4 grades objects from the grade calculation for that category. Or — also keeping the 5 grade objects — attempt a formula gradebook setup.

I welcome other Brightspace Users / Community members to share how they've managed to solve for this type of setup as there could be other ways given how flexible the system is.

    I hope that helps!
