Is it possible to set ungraded quizzes and assignments or is that a standard requirement?

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to create ungraded quizzes and assignments in Brightspace, especially, if you prefer to use them for practice or formative assessment without impacting final grades.
Creating Ungraded Quizzes - When setting up a quiz, you can choose not to link it to a grade item in the gradebook. This means that while students can complete the quiz and receive feedback, their performance won't be recorded in the gradebook. To do this, during the quiz creation process, ensure that the quiz is not associated with any grade item.
Creating Ungraded Assignments - you can create activities that are not linked to grade items. This allows students to submit work and receive feedback without the assignment affecting their overall grade. When creating an assignment, you can choose to exclude it from the final grade calculation or not associate it with a grade item at all.
