Is is possible to have students draw simple graphs in a Brightspace quiz?
I'm asking this question on behalf of an economics professor. He would like his students draw simple line graphs as part of a quiz. I don't expect machine grading, just the ability to draw and submit simple line graphs.
The best solution I have come up with so far is to insert a written response question and allow learners to insert images and add attachments. However, this requires students to use a third party tool to actually draw the graphs, which createspotential academic integrity issues.
Any alternative ideas?
Thanks!

Electronic Annotations - do they support Chinese characters?
Hi D2L/Brightspace friends,
I'm working in higher education and trying to assist our Professors with electronic annotations in the Assignments tool. We've noticed that typing Chinese characters into electronic annotations do not display properly in Brightspace (just some garbled letters come out when you save them).
Is this a feature Brightspace does not support, or am I missing something?
Any help anyone can provide is very much appreciated!
Left-alignment in Brightspace Editor
Hi there.
We have noticed that we can no longer left-align text in any Brightspace Editor text boxes as of this semester (Fal 2023). Is this intentional? If so, can you point me to an announcement and explanation that I can pass along to faculty. I understand that hierarchy is better for accessibility but I have some faculty that are frustrated by their inability to left-align everything in line with the title in the their Content modules. It was possible in the Spring, and modules imported to current course still allow it; but no matter what we do—clear codes, remove format, cut/paste, write in, etc.., we can not get around this restriction.
Thank you.
Re: Designing or Attaching a Form for Students to Submit in D2L
If it were possible to have ungraded questions in a quiz, you could use the FIB question types to gather information. Just put an answer like RANDOM as the "correct" answer to a FIB question. The system will mark the answer as wrong, but who cares. You will have the information you need.
The problem, of course, will be getting the information out of BrightSpace.
I think you are right to ask for this tool within the platform. Sure it can be accomplished with an MS or Google Form, but in my opinion the BrightSpace survey tool (especially the interface) needs a significant overhaul and this would be a useful innovation to consider as part of it.
Re: Whitelist emails?
Hi Adam,
The following resources/guides contain the information you are looking for. See:
If after making any changes necessary, or if you have already made the recommended changes, and still have issues please open a support case with the D2L Support team to help you troubleshoot your Brightspace email configuration.
Hope that helps!
Multiple Choice vs Matching Quiz for Answers with Numbers
Is there a way that the "Question 4" headings can be removed for multiple choice questions? Ideally I would like just the picture and no heading at all. It complicates things when the answers are numbers as well.
I tried to create this quiz as a Matching quiz, but that didn't work because again — the numbers complicate things. I just want a student to be able to say "5" — not have to select number "1" to mean number "5".
Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Alert going to the wrong person.
Hello, we have had 2 times now where an alert for student work submission goes to a different teacher who has no connection to the class in question. We have gone through the settings and can't find any possible link. It is not consistent, only twice so far, and with different classes and teachers. Has anyone else had issues like this? Any thoughts on what could be causing it would be appreciated.
Re: How do you create a stand alone survey, which is not tied it to a specific course?
You can definitely create Surveys outside of a particular course. You can create them at your top organization level and several others in-between that and a course, but you would need the right permissions enabled on your role to be able to do so and the Surveys tool needs to be turned on at the level you want to create one. If you are going to turn some of the permissions on, you may also want to take a look at the permissions you have enabled for Quizzes as well because there's a dependency between the View Quiz Setup permission and creating questions within Surveys.
Hope that helps!
