Re: Image Specs in New Content Experience
Hi Erin,
As a guide I recommend the image sizes that are in the D2L provided HTML templates accessed from the content tool.
Template banner images are 1200 x 300px. The image height is not so much of an issue, but the width is typically the one that matters most. Depending on your content, start with an image 1200px wide and reduce the width from there, testing in content as you go.
Some other information that may be useful listed below:
Homepage Banner
While the display size for the banner is 1170 by 200 pixels, it is recommended that the image you upload is 2400 by 960 pixels to ensure that the image you select displays clearly. Images are automatically resized for the appropriate location and display.
Theme Logo
SVG files are recommended for better scaling. The logo can be up to 260 x 60 pixels but will display at smaller sizes for smaller devices or when viewing a navbar with a course title.
Visual Table of Contents Widget - Unit Images
The widget will display a module image at roughly 238 x 100 pixels. The dimensions of an image should be at least this size but can also be larger. To avoid parts of the image getting cropped, you should maintain the same width:height ratio.
Template Banners
The default HTML templates have a banner width of 1200 and height of 272 – this is not a required size, but it is a good guide / approximation of effective practice.
Quiz Question/Answer Images
Use image files of less than 500 KB for best results.

Re: NCE questions
Hi there,
It is not possible to do these things at this time, but these sound like really wonderful ideas for PIE. :)
End dates and visibility
Hi all,
Some of our faculty continue to use Classic Content while others have switched to NCE, and we're finding that end dates function differently in each one. In Classic Content, a Unit with an end date appears after the end date and the content still shows up, whereas in NCE the Unit is gone after the end date. Can someone please explain the discrepancy and if there are any plans to update NCE so it has the same functionality for end dates as Classic Content.?
Thanks,
Yildiz
Re: End dates and visibility
Hi Yildiz,
Thank you for reaching out. I understand the concern regarding the difference in end-date functionality between Classic Content and NCE.
In Classic Content, the end date for a unit is used as a cutoff point for visibility but does not necessarily remove the content from view after that date. This setup allows for extended access to materials even beyond the end date for review purposes or late submissions.
In contrast, NCE (New Content Experience) is designed with a more streamlined approach. The end date typically enforces a stricter visibility control, meaning the content will no longer be accessible once the end date has passed. This approach is intended to help manage content visibility more effectively in alignment with course schedules and deadlines.
As of now, NCE's functionality is intended to be more rigid in terms of end dates to ensure that content visibility aligns closely with the course timelines. However, we understand the need for flexibility and are continuously working to improve the user experience based on feedback.
If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please let me know!
Best regards,
Miguel
Re: Accessing Class Progress after the end of semester
Thank you, @Aasim.Y.704,
Our institution is also requesting for the progress view be available after a course has ended. It's imperative for us to be able to view progress of our past users for certification purposes. We are encountering a number of customer service issues on our end because we have no way of verifying what content items they did or did not complete after the course ended. Thank you for providing the PIE item number. We have gone in and voted for this idea to pushed forward with production.
Thanks again!
Different Assignment options when accessed via NCE?
Hello,
An instructor has run into an issue in which she created a text-submission assignment that students can only access via the New Content Experience (She removed the link to Assignments in the Nav bar to ensure students view the lesson). Unfortunately, when students access the assignment via NCE, they don't have all the rich text options. However, when I preview it as a student and access it via Assignments (not through NCE), the usual rich text options appear. Is there a way to make the assignments more consistent regardless of how it is accessed?
Thanks,
Yildiz
Re: Different Assignment options when accessed via NCE?
Hi @Yildiz.N.829 . The rich text editor is available from both places, though they are indeed different and require some action from learners.
On the left is an assignment from the New Content Experience (with d2l.Tools.Content.LessonsRenderActivitiesInline turned on) and on the right is the same assignment from the Assignments tool. Both views are as a learner. For the New Content view on the left, a learner can click within the text box to type to get the abbreviated toolbar we see in the image. If they select the Fullscreen option that my mouse cursor is hovering over, they'll then get the traditional editor toolbar we see on the right side.
I hope this is helpful.
Craig.
Re: Why do replace strings work in Units but not in HTML Documents?
Hi Yildiz.N,
The replace strings work in those tools/content items where they are being dynamically generated and are not static as is a HTML document. When I say dynamic, the content is stored in a database and is then written or rendered on demand when presented to a user. In doing so the replace string is 'aware' of a user context and can dynamically write information into the tool/content item (hope that makes sense).
DIfferent tools in Brightspace support different replace strings. When creating content, you'll often see a link to, or information describing the replace strings you can use with that tool. The Community documentation also includes this information some of which is linked below:

Why do replace strings work in Units but not in HTML Documents?
Hello,
An instructor is utilizing replace strings and noticed that they work in New Content Experience in a unit, but when the replace strings are added into an HTML document within the Unit, the replace string will get replaced with the text and will embed that into the code.
For example, if type the string {FirstName} in an HTML Document and click save and close, it will replace it with my first name as expected. The problem is that others will also see my first name because when I go back into edit it either in the editor or the source code, I notice that the string got replaced by the text of my name.
Can anyone explain why replace string work in some places like Units, but not others?
Thanks!
Re: Ability to pull User Progress via API
I got a message back from support saying they found an error in the UserProgress API endpoint and had sent it to their developers. It has been over a year ago and no update. Basically they told me it is listed as unstable and they do not have an ETA on it becoming stable.
In the end, I cobbled together API calls to the DataHub to create a job, looped calls until the job was done, downloaded the job product, then imported the CSV into my db. I then setup a CRON job to have this happen daily to collect the previous day's data.
Hope this helps.
