Re: Document that lists all the possible roles and permissions
Hi Paula.C,
The community resource available at lists out Brightspace tools and their permissions.
Regarding descriptions for the 'default' roles there is no document covering these. The descriptions added to each is a very high level view of what each has the ability to do. These roles are typically taylored during the implementation project to ensure they are a best fit for the clients immediate requirements, and then tend to evolve over time.
If wanting to investigate what each role affords in terms of tool access and functionality we recommend creating a test or demo user in that specific role and step through a typical course offering your institution makes available to learners/students. While doing this, make changes to tool and role permissions until you have alignment between what the user can do at the course offering level (or other org units) and the learner experience you are wanting to create.
Coming back to your question, I'd suggest reviewing each Brightspace role referencing the role permission outlined in the resource linked above, if necessary update the role descriptions to match.
Hope that helps!

Re: Unable to Automatically Regrade Arithmetic Question
Best thing would be to leave us an idea in the PIE. Here on Community, under Resources in the top menu, select Product Idea Exchange (3rd Party Tool) . I'm directing you this way instead of hyperlinking because you need to first be logged in to your account here on Community to access the PIE via our SSO.
Re: Unable to Automatically Regrade Arithmetic Question
@Marc.C.780, you are 100% correct. The only options we have to correct a situation like this is to use the 'Update all attempts' option you mentioned, but because the questions are all going to be slightly different, as you pointed out, you are better off just manually grading each one.
Sorry we don't have a more elegant solution for this at this time.

Re: Product and Services Preview updates
The September Product and Services Preview is now available.
As was mentioned in July and August, to provide Product and Services Preview information to a wider audience, D2L is making some changes to the Product and Services Preview page:
- To improve the content's reach, we are localizing this content into French (fr-ca), Spanish (es-mx), Portuguese (pt-br), Dutch (nl-nl) and Arabic (ar-sa).
- To improve it's findability using the Brightspace Community search function, we are changing the distribution from an attachment to being embedded text in the article. With this September publishing cycle, the PDF is no longer available for this resource.
Re: LOR data
Hi @Morgan.B.822 . Unfortunately, there isn't such reporting in Brightspace. A creative and admittedly awkward workaround, If the need is important enough to warrant the extra work, would be to reference LOR objects with URL shortener links (like bit.ly) to use the statistics from the URL shortener. If there are a lot of objects in a repository, this could be done programmatically (Brightspace API to search/return all objects in a repository, bit.ly API to create a Bitlink)
Re: What permissions determine which items show up in the menus?
Hello Francis
Thank you for reaching out with your question. Understanding how permissions affect menu visibility in Brightspace can indeed be a bit complex. Here’s a breakdown that might help clarify:
- Groups and Sections Visibility:
- The permissions for See Groups and See Sections typically control whether the links to these features appear on the Course Admin page. However, additional permissions or settings specific to the dropdown menu configuration might control the visibility of these links in the dropdown menu.
- Organization Files Visibility:
- The See Organization Files permission controls access to organization files within the context of the course but does not necessarily influence their visibility in the gear menu. The gear menu might be controlled by a different set of permissions or configurations specific to that menu.
General Principle:
- Menu visibility is often controlled by a combination of permissions and specific configuration settings within Brightspace. Permissions can enable or restrict access to certain features, but the visibility of these features in different menus might be influenced by additional settings or roles.
List of Permissions:
- There isn’t a single comprehensive list that details all permissions affecting menu visibility because this can vary based on the specific configuration and version of Brightspace. However, permissions related to course administration, content management, and role settings are typically involved in determining what appears in different menus.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can assist with!
Best regards,
Miguel
Re: "Allocate unenrolled users after Self Enrollment Expiry Date" option not working
@Eduardo.R.1787, you may need to consult with your local Brightspace/LMS admin, but there is a local configuration for your Brightspace site that effects this: d2l.Tools.Groups.EnrollExpiredTaskFrequencySeconds ( Instance ). If you look at the documentation for Groups, you will find the following statement, "The automatic enrollment recurs at a set interval after the expiry date to ensure that all learners are assigned to a group."
Normally this "set interval" is defaulted to 24hours/1 day, but your site may be configured differently. If you had posted this during the 24 hours after your Expiry date, I would check the group enrollments again now to see if they updated. If they haven't, consult with your local Brighspace/LMS admin to check what that configuration setting is set to.
Hope that helps!
