Can I preview a quiz as student to confirm that it's available and working?
When I preview as student there is no start button. Is that normal? Is there any way for me to know if a quiz is available and working properly?

Hi @james.keuning@metrostate.edu, thank you for your question!
The 'Start' button won't show up when viewing as a learner. To take the quiz, you would have to impersonate a learner from the Classlist (if your school has that enabled).

Can you explain more about impersonating a learner from the Classlist? How do we know if our school has that enabled? And if it is enabled, how do we do it?

Hi @Ann.S.373
Thanks for reaching out with your question.
Impersonation allows a user with the appropriate permissions to temporarily access another user’s Brightspace account, such as a learner, so they can see the system exactly as that user does. This is commonly used for troubleshooting and support purposes, as it shows the same content, tools, and access that the learner would see when logged in.
To check if impersonation is enabled at your institution, you can do the following:
- Go to the Classlist in a course.
- Locate the learner you want to impersonate.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the learner’s name.
If impersonation is enabled for your role, you’ll see an option such as Impersonate. Selecting it will log you in as that learner.
If you don’t see an impersonation option, it means the required permissions are not enabled for your role. In that case, I recommend reaching out to your administrator to review and update the impersonation permissions if needed.
You can also find more information about impersonation and permissions in the Brightspace documentation: https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/34437-about-impersonation
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Thank you! I wouldn't have thought to look for that from the Classlist. I just recently learned that we can see grades and scores the way our students see them by choosing Preview next to their name in the Grade section.
I'll ask about getting that permission. To view that one specific exam as a student would see it, they set up a 'sandbox' course with me enrolled as a student, and they copied in the Quiz that I had at the time. But that was a clunky, one-time fix, while allowing impersonations would help me test out every exam, every term. I appreciate your explanation.
