Hello, I am a Practicum Advisor for Teacher Candidates at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Education.

I have created a Discussion Area titled, Practicum Reflections, and used the feature Single User Member Specific Groups to create private Topics for each Teacher Candidate to share ongoing reflections.

My quesiton is about the possibility of inclduing assessment. Currently, I have provided feedback in the Discussion Topics, but then also created an Assignment to assign a PASS/FAIL after reviewing the reflections.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Joe,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are inquiring about including an assessment for Discussion Posts.

If you have added an assessment to a discussion thread, you can assess a student's participation in discussion topics. For reference, here is a detailed community article that provides the steps on how to assess users in discussion threads:

    https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/2869-assess-users-in-discussion-threads

You may find this useful compared to having a separate assignment to assign a grade. I hope this information helps. Kindly let us know if you have any further questions!

    Best regards,
    Abrar

Abrar, thanks for taking the time to send this answer. Yo clarify, the ability to attach assessment to topics created using Single User, Member-Specific groups seems not possible.

I could go to each of the individual Topics and attach a grade, but that seems incredibly inefficient.

    Thanks again!

    Hi @Joe.S.2137 ,

Thanks for updating your response through community!!

Based on what you’re describing, I think it would be a good idea to have a support agent take a closer look at things. We might need to check the discussion settings, group details and steps you followed.

Your first step is to connect with your school or organization’s Help Desk to create a support request.

If you’re not sure how to do this, email us at questions@community.d2l.com with the name of your school or organization and we can provide the contact details.

If you are the ASC/Admin for your Organization, please refer to our documentation for how to log a Support case or request, and a member of our Support team will be happy to assist you.

    Thanks,

    Sangeetha
