How do you setup quizzes that require mathematical calculations?
Hi Brightspace community!
Throwing out a thought to ask about how the community conducts quizzes that require the grading of mathematical calculations. Pen and paper submissions are the traditional way, but we are looking into digital submissions. A hybrid method we have come across is requiring students to submit the final answer online, and then submit their hardcopy calculations on a physical paper. It got me to wonder about the feasibility of having drawing/handwriting function for Brightspace quizzes.
We have thought about using Assignments instead to grade answers and calculations but the need to conduct the quiz in a Lockdown browser renders assignments not possible I believe.
Would love to hear the experiences/sharing of other educators in the community!

Hi Yi,
One possibility is to enable the HTML editor for the written response, allowing students to insert their calculations using the graphical equation tool.
However, depending on the length of the calculation, this approach might not be feasible.

It is only a matter of time until an AI tool can effectively convert any handwritten math equations to typeset math equations. Mathpix is close
Right now most AI tools are focusing on the big items, but the programs that will fill all the niches are coming soon.
