From the instructor view, is it possible to sort group discussion board responses BY GROUP so that I can see which groups have active participation and which groups need a nudge? I can see that I can filter one group at a time but this is a massively enrolled class with a lot of groups so a sort feature would be far more helpful than a filter feature. Or, is there a way to download the grid view to a .csv so I could sort them there? Thanks!

Hello Jessa,

Thank you for reaching out. While Brightspace does not currently offer a way to sort all group discussion responses by group across an entire discussion topic, there are a couple of options available that may help you review participation more efficiently.

To view group discussion responses by group or export participation data, you can use the Statistics tab within the Discussions tool: https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/27289-manage-discussion-forums-and-topics#export-discussion-statistics

1. Navigate to Discussions from your course navbar.
2. Click the Statistics tab.
3. Select the Users sub-tab.
4. From the View By dropdown, choose Groups and select the relevant Group Category.
5. Click Apply.

This will display participation metrics such as threads and replies for users within the selected group category, allowing you to review engagement levels more easily.

You can also export this data by clicking Export to CSV File above the statistics grid. Please note that the exported CSV contains user names and participation statistics for the selected discussion topic, but it does not include Group IDs or group names. As a result, the export cannot be directly sorted by group unless you separately map users to their groups.

If your goal is to review the actual discussion posts for a specific group:

1. Open the discussion topic.
2. Use the View By: Group filter to select a group.
3. Switch to Grid View (if desired) by adjusting your discussion display settings.
4. You can then sort the displayed content within that view or use the Print option to save the displayed posts as a PDF.

The available approach is to filter one group at a time when reviewing posts, or use the Statistics view for a higher-level overview of participation.
