What would cause an activity/ discussion to not show the students available to be evaluated?

What could be the reason for the below? A teacher reached out recently in which 2 discussions were created in a course. 2 weeks after releasing it to the students, she was unable to see any replies to the discussions and also unable to see her students to evaluate. When she made the discussions hidden and created brand new identical discussions and released those, the classlist suddenly appeared. This is a small class so it shouldn't have taken 2 weeks to load their names. We did also try the refresh button but nothing happened. We checked visibility settings and enrollment settings and everything was set up correctly, so not sure what we're missing.

Although I have not encountered this message myself, it appears this messaging is triggered when an instructor or admin performs an action that kicks off a bulk assignment operation across all enrolled learners, like:

• Making a hidden activity visible
• Creating a new activity in a course that already has learners enrolled
• Changing visibility/availability settings on an existing activity that affects all learners

In large courses with many enrolled learners, this can take a noticeable amount of time since it's processing one assignment record per learner. I would recommend reaching out to an administrator at your organization if you are not the one triggering these sorts of actions.
