Regradin/ editing the range of an arithmetic answer
Hi there,
We have a quiz that is in progress. One question requires a numerical value and the acceptable range is too narrow. We want to increase the range to +/- 50000.
If we edit the live quiz it will create a new version of the question that will only be available to those that have not already started the quiz. When we go to "update all attempts" in the grading/ regrading area, there appear to be no options to change the range of acceptable values.
We can see the option to give everyone point(s) for the question (essentially override incorrect responses) and the option to give submissions with results that are incorrect points. However, i do not see any way to re-grade with a new acceptable numerical value range.
The way we see to "solve" this problem is only through manual regrading:
Go to the quiz. → Select the dropdown arrow beside the quiz title and choose Grade. → Open the Questions tab. → Select Grade Individual Responses. → Click into the relevant question. → Update any answers that were marked incorrect but fall within the revised tolerance.
Can anyone see any other alternative as this is potentially a very slow process?
(The tolerance needs to be changed in this question to reflect the results that are being achieved on that day in that experiment)

Hello @Victoria.P.876 ,
Thanks for reaching Brightspace Community.
You’re correct — in Brightspace, changing the tolerance on a numerical question in a live quiz does not automatically regrade existing attempts. Once a question is edited, it creates a new version for students who haven’t started the quiz yet, and past attempts remain tied to the old version.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to bulk regrade numerical answers based on a new tolerance. The only way to update existing attempts is through manual regrading or by overriding points for affected students.
Thanks and Regards,
Bharti
