CLASH: Assignment Exemptions & Assignment Release Conditions

If a student is exempted from submitting an assignment (including bulk exemptions), why does the assignment condition still recognize the exempt status yet prevent the student from progressing to the next activity?

Currently, students must upload a blank or “dummy” submission in order for the system to allow them to move forward. This seems contradictory, as the exemption should logically satisfy the release condition.

These two system tools appear to be working against one another, and the workflow does not align with the intended purpose of an exemption.

Thank you for looking into this unusual issue.

    Hi @Jeff.Y.418

    Thank you for the question.

The exemptions operate within the activity/progress layer, while release conditions belong to a separate layer. These two layers are not currently integrated in the way you’re expecting.
From a technical standpoint, this behavior is functioning as designed.

I found this PIE item requesting the same functionality you’re looking for-
Student Bypass/Exemption for Release Conditions (D8471)

Thank you, Ajith! I will follow up. I also hope that might request for this functionality seems logical and appropriate request for PIE. This is about student flexibility and individualization of course and course content. JY
