Tracking progress on quick link PDF files

I understand that if a PDF file (for example) is added as a Topic, then it will appear under Class Progress and the time that a student spends looking at it can be tracked. However, it is also possible to hyperlink a file by selecting the text in the editor, clicking "Insert Quicklick", and choosing the file. When this is done instead, it does not appear as a separate topic and is just inserted as a link into the description, say, of the page.

My question is this: can we hyperlink to a PDF file using the second choice described above, and still have it be a "tracked" topic?

    Hi Kyle,

I believe that Brightspace only records for Class Progress the length of time a Learner spends on/interacts with that Content Topic page within the LMS itself, which means that if the Topic redirects to an externally hosted resource like another website or platform, it cannot "track"/record the Learner's engagement with that external content.

    Hi Kyle,

To be tracked, the PDF must exist as its own Topic in Content, with completion tracking enabled. As such, the content topic needs to be inside Brightspace itself. If it's opened externally, Brightspace would have no means of tracking it.

Your best bet would be adding the PDF itself as a content topic, if possible.
