Grading quizzes

I am manually grading written answers for final exams for four classes. I classified the exams as Quizzes. When I was grading the exams for one class, Brightspace entered every grade as a 100 even though I deducted points from many students' answers. The other three classes are working properly.

Please advise how I should fix this problem.

    Hi @Charles.W.2444,

It sounds like something unusual is happening with that one class. A few things you might want to check:

    1. Question Point Values - Make sure each question in the quiz has the correct point value set. If any are missing or set incorrectly, Brightspace can default to full marks.
    2. Quiz Score Calculation - Under the quiz properties, confirm the calculation method is set to Sum of points. If it’s set differently, that could explain why grades are showing as 100.
    3. Grading Workflow - If you’re using “Publish” or “Update All Attempts,” double-check that your manual deductions are saved before publishing. Sometimes if changes aren’t saved properly, the system reverts to the default score.
    4. Compare with Other Courses - Since the other three classes are working fine, look for differences in quiz setup between them and the one causing issues.

If none of these steps fix the problem, I’d recommend logging a support case with D2L. Include the course name, quiz name, screenshots of the setup and grading screen, and the steps you followed. That will help the support team dig deeper and see if it’s a configuration issue or something else.

    Hope this helps!
