grade point bonus after max point of category reached

How would you answer this instructor's question: "

I am wondering about how to set a point value (total) for a grade category but then allow for points past that “max” to count for bonus.

For Example – the Class Participation Category has 38 in-class quizzes which are 2 points each (for a total of 76 points); however, we would like the “maximum” grade for the category to be 50 points and anything beyond that count as extra credit.

We also have a Reading Questions quiz category with 203 points possible (spread over many grade items); we would like to set the “maximum” at 153 points and then anything beyond that count for extra credit." Thank you.
