Add Quiz Category: Character Match
Can Brightspace add a quiz question category that compares every character in two pieces of text (one question and its matched answer) and tallies differences as errors?
In my writing courses, I like to provide students with sentences containing mechanical, grammatical, and typographical errors and then ask them to correct all of the mistakes. Unfortunately, it takes a long time to grade a batch of 35-40 responses one by one.
But Brightspace could rapidly grade each response as long as the quiz was set up to require a perfect, character-by-character match. For example, here's (1) a correct sentence followed by (2) a version with ten errors that have to be corrected.
Correct: In the end, she did not take her mother's suggestion, and she made two errors, both terrible, as a result.
Incorrect: in the end she did not tak her mothers sugestion and she made two, errors both terrible as a result
There are various free text checkers online (like this one: https://countwordsfree.com/comparetexts)) that do somewhat similar work, but not for these quizzing and grading purposes. If Brightspace could add this type of question to its quiz categories, it would be a great help.
