In Manage Files, how to tell which ones are connected to content

Hi there,
Please would you let me know if there is any way to distinguish files that are connected with content vs files that are not in manage files?

For context, the lesson has been ported over and brought a lot of files that seem to be mostly unrelated to the current subject though it is hard to know which ones are and are not "keepers".

Thanks for the help!

    Hi Victoria,

Based on official D2L Community documentation, here’s what we know:

There is currently no built-in feature in Brightspace’s Manage Files tool that allows you to directly identify which files are actively linked to content topics and which are not. This limitation has been confirmed in community discussions.

However, D2L has acknowledged this as a common need, and there is a Product Idea Exchange (PIE) request titled “Show what content topic is associated with a file” (D8226) that addresses exactly this use case. You can upvote or contribute to that idea to help prioritize it for future development.

In the meantime, the only available methods are manual workarounds, such as:

    • Reviewing content topics and matching file paths manually.
    • Organizing files into folders by module or topic to help track usage.
    • Temporarily moving suspected unused files and monitoring for broken links.

Let me know if that answers your question.

    Thnaks for the reply @Raquel.B.1893

I will probably opt for the manual route but it would be super great to have even an indicator that it is linked to the content.

I tried to find the PIE through the link you provided but the link in that other post didn't work. And when I navigated there through "resources" it had an "unavailable quicklink" sign.

    Thanks 👍️
