How do you enable HTML templates in the new content experience? The instructions I've found on your website only show this for the classic content experience.

    Hello Kirstie,

Based on the setting you are referring to from the Old Content Experience, in NCE, the option to set the Template path from the Content settings is replaced by using the d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath config variable. The config variable allows you to specify the directory containing HTML templates for each course. This does require administrator access.

Hi! Here are some instructions about applying an existing template to a topic when using New Content Experience. https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/3381-use-templates-in-content

If you are looking to add new templates to your course to use, you can learn more about this here: https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/3328-about-manage-files

Thank you for the reply. The instructions you attached do not fix my problem. In the old content view, there was an option under Content Settings to create a new path to the html files to be used. This has disappeared and is what I need. The page view does not give me a "Select Template" option, so I am unable to use any html template, even ones that I've loaded into the course.

I am in the same boat as the above poster. There is no option to “Select Template,” even though I’ve loaded HTML templates to the course.

Also, how do I turn of GenAI authoring tools? I don’t want to see that at all, and untoggling the GenAI button doesn’t seem to help.

  • Hello,

In the NCE, the option to select templates is no longer configured through the Content Settings UI. Instead, it relies on a configuration variable:

    • d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath must be set by a Brightspace administrator.
    • This variable defines the folder path where your course’s HTML templates are stored.

    Once this is configured:

    1. Go to Content in your course.
    2. Click Create New > Page.
    3. You should now see a “Select Template” button.
    4. Click it to choose from the available templates stored in the configured folder.

If you don’t see the “Select Template” option:

    • Confirm that the TemplatePath variable is set for your course.
    • Ensure the templates are uploaded to the correct folder in Manage Files.
    • You may need to refresh or re-enter the content tool after the setting is applied.
    • Templates must be in HTML format and stored in the folder specified by the admin.

Let me know if there is any other doubts.

If you can turn off the New Content Experience (NCE) and flip back to the Classic Content experience temporarily in your course, you can configure the HTML template set you want in the Classic Content experience using the Content settings button. This button is available in any module in your course in the Classic Content experience (look for the little Settings cog at the top right of the module name). Then, once you've configured the HTML template set you want, flip back to the NCE and the default templates will be the ones you want.

If you don't have the ability to flip back/forth between NCE and Classic content experiences, click that 'Browse for Template' button in the dropdown under "Select a Template", and choose the page you want to use from Manage Files. It's more clicks and not as efficient, but you'll be able to grab the template pages you want.
