Embedding Assesments: H5P vs. Brightspace assesments

I just want to make sure I am not missing something regarding the embedding of assessments, primarily quizzes. I can insert H5P assessments right on the HTML "file" content page but when I use a brightspace quiz, it seems that I can only put it in the same module the HTML file page sits in, I can't embed within the HTML file itself?

I am hoping to use the 100's of brightspace quizzes that carried over from our Sakai migration but there is way too much clicking around if I can only link to the quizzes from the HTML file page. I am considering re-building them all in H5P, just to keep students on the course "road" with less clicking out but am hoping someone can confirm this first. I have attached an example from our old sakai page that has a quiz right there at the bottom of the page.

  • Hello Christopher,

You are correct, you cannot embed a quiz on an html page. You can only include a quiz in the module structure.

  • Thank you Andrea.M.553,

It is really surprising to me that only practice assessments and H5P can be embedded right in the HTML. There are at least 4 to 5 clicks for each standard quiz question and that takes the student away from the content! Not a problem for most, but for those who build asynchronous, and want students to engage in the content more often with sometimes quick and easy engagement questions, this is not a good thing.

This seems like an oversight to me. We have several small questions that add up to a lot of participation points but H5P is an add on and there is no guarantee the University will continue with it after the first contract period expires. Moreover, the practice assessments show points, e.g, 1/2 or 3/4, but these are not "real"bpoints that can be seen in the gradebook. Again, really surprising this unwieldily way to add a simple assessment has been addressed yet. Other than that, there is a lot to like about our new LMS.

    Hello @Christopher.C.9807 ,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the current limitations around embedding standard quiz questions directly into HTML content.

As a workaround, you can explore using Creator+ elements, which allow for enhanced content authoring. You may also try inserting the quiz as a Quicklink. For more information, please refer to the following guide: Use Creator+ Elements.

Additionally, we encourage you to post your idea on our Product Idea Exchange (PIE) to help shape future improvements.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Bharti

The problem, as I see it, with creator plus elements is that they are not graded. (please tell me I am wrong!) They look great and we may use a few but we are trying to set up participation points throughout the asynchronous curriculum. If we use quick links there may be as many 4 to 5 clicks and it takes one away from the content on the HTML page. We are going to use H5P for some of this, as they embed and are gradable, but we are only guaranteed we will have access to it for 4 years so do not want to overbuild with it too much. I will check out your idea re: PIE, thanks again.
