Visibility of question banks

I have a couple of questions that are related:

  1. Are question pools visible to students if importing a question pool from one subject to another?
  2. Are students notified when question pools are imported into a subject they are studying? If so, why? How can this be turned off. This is always backend admin.
  3. I can only see hide title or description from students - how can you restrict visibility?
  4. If there is a way to restrict visibility, does this impact visibility when deployed in a quiz?
  5. Are question pools visible to students at all?

I am asking these questions because an academic wrote to me with the following:

I did just want to let you know that when you add new question banks to a subject - they are immediately visible to the student. I have had a student kind enough to notify me each time or I wouldn't have known. So perhaps in the future, it might be good if you are able to make them not visible to students.

We are on the understanding that question pools are not visible to students.

    Hi @Sue.S.4 ,

Best practice is that student permissions only allow them to Take a Quiz, in which case, they would be able to see any questions associated with a quiz they have access to attempt. If new questions are being added when the quiz is available, students would be able to see those questions.

There are no permissions that give access to Question Pools specifically. See Quiz Permissions and descriptions:

It is difficult to understand the workflow being used when it is described as "adding new question banks to the subject students are studying". If that means question banks are being added to a quiz that a student has access to, then they would have access to those questions as long as the quiz is available.

Availability can be restricted using the Start and End dates. These determine when students will be able to see the quizzes, access the quiz, and the amount of time it is available.

    • Start Date: Specify the date when your quiz becomes available to learners.
    • End Date: Specify the date when your quiz is no longer available.

I would suggest reviewing the quiz setup and the workflow in place to determine if best practices are being used. If you are still getting an odd result, contacting D2L Support would be the next step.
