AI Detection on Discussion Posts?

Hi there,
Our college uses Turn it In as an AI detection tool and am wondering if there is a way to enable Turn it In on student's discussion posts? Is this something that needs to be done in the back end of our LMS? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hi, Melanie.

My understanding is that the much-desired capability for discussion-post scanning by Turnitin is planned but not yet released.

In a Turnitin-led webinar I attended in November 2024, they mentioned a future version/upgrade of Turnitin called "Asset Processor" which will allow Turnitin to become available in Brightspace Discussions and Quizzes. They said we should hear more about it hopefully summer 2025.

"Asset Processor" is live on assignments now, so I assume they are still building things out a piece at a time, i.e., still working towards making it available in Discussions and Quizzes. I didn't see it mentioned in the D2L Product Roadmap, though.

Maybe someone else will comment.

FYI, I just searched the Product Idea Exchange and the one for "Enable TurnItIn integration for Discussions and Long Answer quizzes (D3176)" has a comment from the D2L Product Management Team four months ago that says "We are evaluating the overall interest of this idea as part of the updated LTI asset processing integration experience."
I'd encourage you to upvote that idea.

You could also upvote "Turnitin in discussions(D10034)"—this one is marked Under Consideration.
