Assignment submissions past the due date

Assignments submitted after the due date should not overwrite the 0 (or other grade) put in at the due date. This defeats the whole purpose of having due dates on assignments.

As per the community article related to About automatic zero grading for missing submissions

    https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/26156-about-automatic-zero-grading-for-missing-submissions

    • Learners can submit a course activity after the due date after they have received an automatic zero (if the activity remains available). Instructors can manually grade and override the zero. In this case, the corresponding overdue indicators will be cleared in the gradebook and learner view of grades.

May we know in your case whether the activity was still available for the Learners post the due date ?

    Thanks,

I don't want to have to manually override the zero. It should stay at zero unless I manually override it with a grade (e.g. if I want to give an individual student credit for a late submission). The late attempt should be acessible to the instructor but its grade should not automatically override the 0 after the deadline.

  • Hi @John.T.26,

    Thank you for your response.

When you say, "It should stay at zero unless I manually override it with a grade," did you mean that after the due date, the grades are changing to a different value than zero without you making any changes? Could you please provide us with an example so we can better understand the behavior you are seeing?

    Thank you,

    Tauany

The activity is still available to learners after the due date. We want them to be able to take additional attempts at the quizzes while they are studying. But these should not count after the deadline and they shouldn't over-write the pre-deadline grades.

I have attached an example of a student overriding an overdue grade.

The second file is pre due date; the student has not yet completed the assignment. The first file is after the due date; the student's late attempt overrode the 0 grade that was put in at the due date.

    Hello @John.T.26 ,

    Thank you for your response!

Based on what you’re describing, I think it would be a good idea to have a support agent take a closer look at things.

Your first step is to connect with your school or organization’s Help Desk to create a support request.

If you’re not sure how to do this, email us at questions@community.d2l.com with the name of your school or organization and we can provide the contact details.

If you are the ASC/ Admin for your Organization, please refer to our documentation for how to log a Support case request, and a member of our Support team will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you,

    Rusha
